Title: Fable 2 vs Fallout 3.
Post by: phoenix1967 on October 10, 2008, 01:38:59 PM
There's no option for "both" on purpose. "Ha! Ha!" - Nelson.

I'm leaning towards Fable 2 at this point. And then asking for Fallout 3 for the holidays.

Fable if it was on PC.

If I could only pick up one, it'd be Fable II. But who knows, I might change my mind eventually. ;)

As great as Fable 2 looks, I'll be getting, and playing, Fallout 3 first.

After watching a lot more new media on Fable II, I'll hold off on it for a while. It looks like a high quality game but after seeing the combat and running around town it's just not grabbing my attention anymore. Like the first one I'll pick it up on impulse after release. I'm sure I'll enjoy it as I did the first but it's no longer a priority title for me.

Between Fallout 3 and Castlevania Order of Ecclesia I'll have plenty to play this month. :)

Off topic a bit but has anyone been following the game Alpha Protocol? It's a sci-fi / spy RPG by Obsidian Ent. (Kotor II, NWN 2) that's using the Mass Effect engine and dialog tree system. I'm really excited about it's potential as well as the Alien franchise RPG they are making as well.

I've played neither Fable or both the Fallout games. Am I missing anything here? GameTap has the first Fallout for free download right now, so maybe I should give it a shot?

I'm looking forward to seeing how this one turns out as well.

That sounds nice, I think I'll give it a try too. :) I've never played any of those games either.

Yeah. I'm looking forward to Alpha Protocol, too. Last I heard it was a February 2009 release date?

This is the first I've heard about an Alien RPG, though...PC, Console or both?

I'm also intrigued by Borderlands.

You may like Fallout, but it's hard for me to get into in these days of fast paced gaming.

I voted for Fable,  more of my style of gaming.

I worked out a deal with a friend of mine to purchase his Fable 2 Collector's edition for $40. I just have to pick it up from EB/Gamestop tomorrow. 8)

They'll both be terrible as straight up rpgs and I'll be buying neither of them. The end.

P.S. though if I could, I'd probably check out Fable 2 since I can enjoy that one abit since it doesn't claim to be anything but an action RPG. Sadly though, I'll have to check out FO3 to write a review. I cringe at the thought.

That's quite a beacon of positive energy you've got going there Walt...  ::)

I was thinking the same thing. You know, if you don't want to play/review a game, then you don't have to. Nobody's forcing you, you know. ;)

You don't always get to review the games you like.

That is true but if you say "I cringe at the thought" then that must mean you really don't want to review that particular game.

I'm sure you've played atleast some games in your life that you enjoyed; review those first, it's fun! :)

I didn't enjoy Fable 1 (I thought it was too much of a kid's game)...but I seriously enjoyed Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, so I definitely pick Fallout 3.  Don't play many games anymore, though...but hopefully I'll get a chance to go at it around Xmas time :)

Did you give Fable a chance? It paints itself as a sort of Disney fairy tale, but there are dark and adult things hidden around every corner. That's one of the reasons I found it so amazing.

Ah, could be indeed.

I didn't think about that because I thought of it in the context of writing reviews for RFG.

Yeah, I actually played it through.  What I meant was that I didn't enjoy it as much as I had anticipated given its reviews & hype.  Fallout on the other hand was a perfected game at the time IMO, and Fallout 2 and Tactics were also great games.  Fallout 3 is obviously quite a bit different, but if it keeps the same flair that the first two had, it should be pretty damn good.

While I was disappointed that Fable fell so flat as far as the promises he made, it was a good solid RPG worth at least one playthrough. I was hoping Fable II would be Fable 1 + some of the promises of the first one, but it looks like another good solid RPG not a holiday killer app.

Fallout 3 is where it's at hopefully. I enjoy the Fallout series, even the Brotherhood of Steel (http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=U-072-S-03840-A) spinoff so many diehard fans seem to ignore. All I have to decide is whether I want to waste shelf space for a lunchbox & bobblehead or just the regular version. :P

Fallout 3 just looks like a toned down S.T.A.L.K.E.R. AKA, an Oblivion with guns. We'll see though, I really can't wait for Farcry II.

Something like that. I've been elected by Duck and Cover to review it and I intend to review it anyways, regardless of DaC cause it's getting perfect scores that it doesn't deserve for grevious flaws. Besides, other people make a living off of reviewing games they hate. Look at AVGN.

Farcry II does look pretty awesome. I'm excited about picking it up tommorow and that should be next weeks WOR. This weeks is Dead Space if anyone cared.

I hope so, otherwise I prob won't pick it up. Oblivion is a casual RPG with mindless exploration, no thinking or skill involved. It made a nice diversion when I wanted to veg on the couch and stare at the tube or just listen to tunes. Fallout, as great as it was, required some strategy and had slower paced gameplay. That was fine then but not what I'm looking for now. Now I just want Apocalivion. :P

The first fable, was a great game. But it just didn't grab me like i thought it would. Fallout 3 looks really promising but ill have to wait and see if its a game thats possible to play and enjoy in short sessions. When I was a kid and teen spending 4+ hours on a game in a sitting was nothing but now with work and everything that kind of time is hard to get so it needs to be a game I can play an hour at a time.
