So I would like to start off this rant by saying I think everyone that works on and helps develop this site is awesome, giving their time to make it a great place to talk about, trade, and show off collections, but I have some issues on where and what the site should be and what it is now.

First off I feel that the site is set up to the collector for games and should every game and variance for the die-hard collector.  I also understand that there is only so much room in the database. Here are my suggestions, that I know everyone wont agree on, but as a collector it would be what would suit my needs.

1.   I think we should have all variation of any games, but only if some one on the site has it.
2.   Pack in games should be on the site, if you can buy it by its self used you dont have to own the system. Also we cant be the most complete if we dont have them.
3.   If room on the database is to full we should remove some games that no one owns. They can be added when bought.
4.   For the sticky issue of game guides, we should just add a 4th column in every game added after the manual. If you have many variance of the walkthrough put down 3 and in comments list what ones you have.
5.   We need to be able to add photos to games submissions, so we dont have to wait until its added, also it would help prove what it is.
6.    When searching UPC should be a searchable field, so if some one does have a barcode scanner, it makes finding games nice and fast.

I know some people want the site to be nice and clean and not even have the Greatest Hits versions, thats more for the gamespot  and gamefaqs type sites.  They are not built for the collector, they are for the player only.  For me to geek it up and nerd it out if I have 3 games like I do for FF7 I want to show them all off not just say 3 3 3. I want to be able to see why I have them.

I know I ranted to some people already on the chat but, to save my own sanity I have to get it out for everyone so see and comment about.

Thanks for every one that does such hard work on the site.  I come to this site almost everyday to the point my wife just says  I see your on your site again ☺

Posted under NES Challenge, Robocop 2, Robocop 3, Hudson Hawk, Last Starfighter, Dirty Harry, Mad Max

With the recent playing of Robocop it seemed like a good idea to get into the next 2 while it was still somewhat fresh in my mind. That logic didnt mean much once I booted them up. Allthough each game is an side scrolling action game, they are each wildly different from one another.

Robocop 2, I felt, was the worst of the bunch by far. This game puts a much larger focus on platorming than the other 2. Between the sloppy controls and cruel level design it was a very messy playthrough. Beyond the traps, pitfalls and enemies in each level you are also tasked with finding a minimum number of criminals to arrest (specific different enemy types in each stage) and picking up a minimum number of nukes. Thats right nukes. Luckily your supplied with an endless supply of continues to keep you going. There is one quick boss fight right in the middle of the game that was actually harder than the 3 part final boss. Glad to have this one done.

Robocop 3 was the most interesting of the trilogy. It had a very interesting couple mechanics that didnt quite get as fleshed out as they could have. While playing along (with the best controls of the 3, which are still a bit robotic Tongue) each hit Robocop takes actually does damage to the different areas of his body. These are split into: Head, Body, Arm, Legs. Each part represents your fundamental abilities such as: Legs - Walking, Body - Jumping, Head - Direction of Movement, Arms - Guns. The lower the power each part has the higher the chance of failure is. Arms hurting, guns will get jammed. Head taken a few to many hits,
you might start walking in the opposite direction. The cool thing is that the damage you've sustained follows you across each level. You dont get to start with a blank slate just because you finished a stage. However good/bad you did will be how you start your next battle.

Hidden or scattered across the stages are repair modules that allow you to slightly repair your body parts in between stages. There are quite a few in the first stage and then are very sparse afterwards. In additon to the repair modules are items that give you more life also. Your extra life (or lack of) also carries over from stage to stage. Since each stage gives you less and less in terms of life/repairs and gets a bit harder, its in your best interest to do VERY well in the first couple stages to stock up some goodies in your arsenal. The game only have 5 stages with the last one seeming to be more of a bonus stage than boss/level, so as cool as these mechanics might sound you dont get to explore them too much. Really cool idea though and definitely the most fun of the Robocops in my book.

Next up was the quick little action/platform/puzzler, Hudson Hawk. There are three stages each involving you sneaking or fighting your way around several floors of a building in order to steal an Da Vinci related artifact. None of the areas are particularily hard and they are all fairly short too. It really felt like a lot of the game was missing. What was there was fun to play, but there should have been several more levels to it me thinks.

Also gave a quick try to Dirty Harry, Mad Max and Last Starfighter. With a little more goofing around I should be able to take down Dirty Harry. Mad Max and Last Starfighter are going to take some mapping out though it seems. After the Section Z map-fest I had a little while ago I'm not to keen on the idea right now, so both of those games will get tossed on the back burner.

Today I will be reviewing a game that many of us have been begging for a sequel, myself included, for quite some time. Probably since 2003's F-Zero GX for the Nintendo GameCube. So in hopes of jump starting Nintendo I will be bringing up this classic title.

Overall the game is nothing more than your standard arcadey, fast-paced, white knuckle racing game. There is little strategy involved other than using the ample boost pads and tight curves. However that is what makes the game so enjoyable. The newly added story mode gives a little insight into the characters and their background. This mode also adds in more that just circuit racing, throwing in drag races. It makes for a nice change and doesn't deter from the overall package.

The simplicity of the game itself has variety if nothing else. There are over 20 tracks and 30 vehicles and Amusement Vision added customization aspects to allow for a little diversity in the vehicles you can drive.

All told, this is a must own title in your GameCube's library. It will never replicate the success of the  Mario Kart franchise, but it doesn't try to. The controls are tight and are perfectly laid out on the GameCube's controller. 4-player local multiplayer should keep this game close to you system for quite some time.

Score: 8.6/10

Keeping with the Ahhnold theme tonight I took on the Predator. This one was probably the most fun of the movie games so far. And probably also the game that least followed the plot of the movie. There are 30 stages in total and 6 BIG stages that act as boss levels. During the normal stages you simply have to find your way to the door to the next area. If there is a predator at the end of the stage you have to kill him before you get access to the door, otherwise just walk on in. Simple as that. Nice variety of enemies that are ALL completely unrelated to the movie. Some simple puzzles and platforming tossed in there too. Pretty basic and not to challenging.

Hello everyone.  Went to one of my local stores here and found some nice NES games that I have been wanting.  My brother and I are working on replacing all of our loose NES Games with CIB NES games and selling our cart only or cart with manual copies.  SO today I picked up very Minty Mega Man 6 complete with everything I.E. Manual, Poster, Black Sleeve, Nintendo Power AD card, and the kicker the plastic that goes around the game.  This copy is practically brand spanking new.  Then I also picked up Bucky O'Hare also very minty but not quite as new, Lethal Weapon little crease on front of box otherwise CIB and good shape, Raid 2020 Minty with everything including plastic sleeve, Wally Bear and The No Gang CIB.  Then from the Amazon guy my copy of Dick Tracy in very Minty condtion came with everything (including the plastic sleeve) I got for $5.00, and I got my CIB T&C Surf Designs.   So another good find!!

ALSO I picked up for $35.00 a table top Donkey Kong Jr.  Works perfectly and in good shape.

I am not above a shameless plug here. I have a buddy I work with that started up his own website. It's still in it's beginning stages and with everything doesn't get updated as often as it should but it's still a solid blog-type site relating to gaming. www.gamerzrwe.com is the site if anyone wants to check it out. I love to hear some opinions on it.

For today's post I'm going in a different direction. Digital downloads and distribution of new/re-released games and content. It's become a bit overdone in my opinion. I feel that it's become far too money driven. I understand the convenience for some and cost effective for others but nothing beats the feel of a brand new (or used) game in your hands. The smooth texture of the case, the folded manuals still tightly stapled together, the elaborate box art that all encompasses the entire package is being threatened by this method of transferring new games to consumers.
I grew up mostly in the early 90s, so maybe it's partially a nostalgia factor for me, but it truly bothers me when new content is released digitally. I am a proud collector as much as I am a player of games and I enjoy displaying my collection for not only myself, but my guests as well. For example, I loved the new Alan Wake American Nightmare game on Xbox Live. Solid game that adds to the story while delivering several hours of gameplay at a very reasonable price. I know that making a boxed version of said game would likely have retailed for double the price in the same way Undead Nightmare did for Red Dead Redemption. But I am sure I speak for others when I say I would've paid it.

Maybe I'm just bitter. Who knows? But a part of me died when I bought my copy of NHL 12 used and thought I was missing a manual only to find out it never had one...

Am I alone here? Or does the community agree with me, even if just a little bit?

As stated yesterday I had already played a bit of Robocop. Was able to finish it up tonight. Nothing to write home about. Short and bland. It was a little wierd that you had no control over when you pulled out your gun or that you couldnt jump. Another meh kind of game.

Followed that up with another classic Arnold movie-game, Total Recall! Say what you will about it, but it had one great thing going for it. The biggest most badass 8-bit Schwarzenegger you'll ever see. It was very satisfying to punch tiny little men in the face. The game was also riddled with Terminator quotes. Fantastic!!

Hello there bloggers. For my first review I've chosen Crosswords DS  for, you guessed it, the Nintendo DS. This is an expansive puzzle game that will give you hours of gameplay and will not drain your cell phone's battery.  Nuevo Games added in word searches and anagrams as well, leaving you with seemingly endless hours of gameplay. The overall presentation is about what you would expect. It's menu is easy to navigate, but is very simple.

Well, not that you expect great things from a puzzle game in terms of graphical power, right? If you do you would be disappointed. It's as graphically advanced as a real crossword puzzle. And basic MIDI type background music in the menus and basic scribbling sounds when you write a letter comprises most of the sounds you will hear.

The controls are fairly simple but very responsive. You write the letters in the boxes. You drag the stylus to select the words in word searches. Not exactly rocket science.

Overall
Simply stated this is one of the best. It will leave you with seemingly endless hours of play, Allows multiple save slots so you can have someone else share your cartridge and still have your own progress seperate from theirs. This is a must buy title unless you can't stand crossword puzzles. I bought my 3DS in September '11 and have logged over 17 hours on that handheld alone, not counting the countless hours on it's original console. At it's low cost at retail combined with the expansive selection of puzzles this will likely find a home on your shelf for a long time.

Score: 8.8/10

Hello there RF Generation community. I will be taking a few stabs into this world that I have never done. The purpose of my blog is nothing more than reviewing various games for a variety of consoles, young and old. There is no rhyme or reason to the games I will be selecting, just a random sampling at this point. I would love some constructive criticism either way so I may make this more fruitful of an endeavor for myself and all those reading at home. My first review starts now!

Thought I'd start off my movie marathon with three games based on 3 movies that I have enjoyed very much.

Back to the Future has a well known reputation for sucking, so I had to check it out first hand. Its definitely not a great game, but I think its slightly better than it has a rep for. The skateboarding levels are actually kind of fun. The Soda Joint, School and Dance parts are all kind of boring and quite easy. The only part of the game that absolutely frustrated me was the final level getting the Delorean to 88mph across the electrified wire. One chance at it and its very easy to lose your speed at the last second. Its probably part of the game that is most true to the movie, yet its easly the most annoying part of the game. Good thing the rest of the game was short because I had to play through it 5 or 6 times just to beat that one level.

I love me some Darkman so I was pretty psyched to see they made a game based on it. I didnt think a movie like that would warrant a game, but I'm glad it did. Darkman is not too bad and actually stays fairly closely to the movie. Its also got a decent amount of variety in the levels. So if you havnt seen Darkman the premise is that your face is burned off by a man named Durrant. This leaves you hideous and a bit unhinged. Good thing your a brilliant scientist who recently discovered how to make a realistic synthetic skin like substance. He uses that discovery to make masks to not only cover his face, but also impersonate people. Light makes the material fall apart so he tries to stay in the shadows (hence the name).

The game jumps between taking pictures of the next area's boss (so that you can make your mask), hanging from a helicopter dodging traffic, action platforming and maze-like moving platform stages. Its a pretty cool little game. The fighting is horrendous though and takes some getting used to. If they had spent some time cleaning that up, this would be a very solid game.

Terminator 2 was kind of a disappointment too. It seemed like half a game. T-1000 was a joke. The brawler in the bar at the beginning was more trouble. Maybe the first one will be better.

Hey everyone.  Been a while since I have done a blog so I thought I'd just start a community type blog.  I was looking at my collection trying to figure out what is the most impressive part of it well I decided since my brother and I have been getting so many Boxed NES games these days I would say that is our MOST impressive part of our collection.  I mean we have some pretty rare titles or aka highly sought after titles.   Like:
*Die Hard
*Rainbow Island
*Bomberman II
*Jetson's
Among a few others these are just a few I can name off the top of my head.  Most of our games are CIB which makes this part of our collection extra special! So the second most impressive would be our Collector's Edition's (See back dated blogs on my blog page), then probably our GB/GBC/GBA games, then N64 (Clearly we have a theme), SNES, and then PS1 and so on and so forth.  BUT TELL ME ABOUT YOURS! What is your favorite part of you collection!?!?!?! Also if you want to see pictures I would be more than happy to post some on here once I take some of our NES collection.

See that game? That's Final Fantasy XI, a game that I have very fond memories of playing. It's an MMORPG, and the first MMO in the Final Fantasy Series. I played this game for 2 or so years before I quit due to developing an addiction to it. Still, before I quit, I had many friends in the game, and we had some good times playing it. At first, I sucked at the game, and considered quitting, but I kept pushing on, thanks to help from those friends, and I got better. As mentioned earlier, I developed an unhealthy addiction to this game, and that's what forced me to quit. This upset me, because I had many friends in the game, but for the sake of my health, I had to quit, so I did. Still, the memories I have of this game are good ones, and I doubt I'll ever forget about it. To this day, I have not enjoyed an MMO as much as I enjoyed this one. With that, I announce today that alongside Chrono Cross, another game has received a perfect 10 from me, that game being this one. If you know you can't get addicted to MMOs, then go play this game. I highly recommend it, as it really is a flawless game. Here's hoping people continue to play it, and make good friends along the way for many years to come. Smiley

Popful Mail is a Sega CD Game released back in 1995. It was published by Working Designs, the same people behind Lunar Silver Star and Lunar Eternal Blue. Despite being one of the earlier games with Voice Acting, the dubbing is actually pretty good.

So what kind of game is this? It's a Platformer with RPG Elements. You know, move left and right, attack enemies, buy better equipment, and so on. You get 3 Characters to play as. The Main Character is Mail, a spunky Elf-Girl who wants to capture the villainous Magician Muttonhead and claim the bounty on his head. The other two characters, her companions, are Tatt, Muttonhead's kind-hearted apprentice, and Gaw, a little Dragon-like creature whose only aim is to please Mail.

The game is very funny, and has several pop culture references, which make it even funnier most of the time. Mail's short fuse and temper also add to the humor, with her going as far as calling someone retarded at one point:

For the record though, said character is pretty stupid, causing trouble most of the time.

The game's animated Cut-Scenes are also nice and easy on the eyes:

Overall, this game is very fun, but also difficult most of the time. Would I recommend it to anyone? Hell yes I would. Go play this game, even if you have to use an Emulator to do it. Cheesy

I'd like to officially announce three new staff members to the RF Generation team!
First off, we have two new DB Contributors, Bildtstar and Raffa1985! These guys have been a submission storm the last few months, with hundreds of images and page edits, and they have been great assets in our fight toward cleaning up the Euro sections of the DB. So take a look at the Euro sections, especially the PS1 and PS2, there's still a lot of work to be done, but its going to get there a lot faster with these gentlemen on staff.

But that's not all for staff additions, we have one more, this time its an entirely new staff position. TheGrue will be joining the RFG team as a Programmer. This position will allow him to take his already wonderful Android App to the next level, making it run smoother and faster. He'll also be helping out with normal site programming in the future, allowing us to roll out new features and fixes even faster.

Last but certainly not least, we have the promotion of Shadow Kisuragi. Shadow's been excelling at every staff position he's been at and has shown he is devoted to RF Generation, so the other Directors and I thought it would benefit everyone to have him be a Director. His main responsibilities will be overseeing the Technical/Programming aspects of the site, so he'll be the one mainly in charge of making sure the site continues to run smoothly and keeping the staff on track to rolling out new features.

So give these gentlemen a round of applause, they definitely deserve it for all the hard work they have already done and all the hard work they will be doing in the future to making sure that RF Generation continues to be THE Classic and Modern Video Games Database.

Keep it on Channel 3!
