Is anyone else as excited as I am for Battlefield 3? There are many reasons why I am out of my mind excited about this new game.
The first and foremost reason I am so excited about this game is that it is a sequel to Battlefield 2 as opposed to being another of the Bad Company franchise. Don't get me wrong the Bad Company franchise is still good and fun, but lacks a LOT when compared to the full blown PC Battlefield games of yore. (particularly Battlefield 2142 which to this day is my favorite shooter bar none)
Another reason I am so excited about this new Battlefield game is that it looks absolutely stunning even on the consoles. Granted the system is dumbed down a bit on the consoles (only 32 players as opposed to 64, and cut from 60fps to 30fps), but still looks amazing, and even at 30fps it looks smooth.
This game is going to be so epic that I am actually going to get the PC version of the game as well just to see the full blown awesomeness of unbridled Battlefield 3 (64 players and no frame limit, and I'm quite sure my system will run this game nicely, or give me a good excuse to get a better graphics card)
Anyway, are there any other Battlefield fans out there?

This is Pac-Land, a Platformer for the TurboGrafx-16 that I acquired recently. It's exactly what you'd expect from a Pacman Game: Good, simple fun.
The object of this game, as should be expected from a Platformer, is to reach the right side of a Level, starting from the left side, while evading hazards that will make you lose lives. The twist is that you can use the classic Pacman Power Pellets to (obviously) eat the Ghosts that would try and stop you from making it to your goal. At the bottom of the screen is a score multiplier that will deplete as you traverse the level. The higher the multiplier when you finish, the better your score.
Every 3 rounds, you'll have to guide Pacman back home using a special pair of boots that allow him to perform multiple jumps in a row. Every 2 trips (8 rounds) you make, you'll get a different cutscene. I made 4 trips before it got too hard for me.
Is this game repetitive? Yes, but I still think it's pretty fun. I don't think Pac-Land is very rare, so if you have a TG-16 and some extra cash, go pick this game up. If you enjoy challenging platformers, you'll like it.
Also, could anyone suggest any other good platformers for the TG-16?
I checked out the video Shadow recommended (there were 2 actually) and neither of them were going to help me get past this Crab very easily. So I decided to do it the slowest method, which was to get my gun maxed out and slowly make my way to him trying my darnedest not to get hit. Unfortunately my full gun meter (8 bars I think) was only 3 bars full when I reached the boss. Not exactly as I had planned it. Somehow I managed to beat him without taking any damage though. Just took a loooooong boring time. Forgot where to go after that part and ended up doing a bit of exploring in the last 3 areas. So the video is going to be a long longer than it could have been.
Since we've been tossing around the idea of a commentary I gave it a practice run tonight and literally talked to myself the entire time I played Blaster Master. About 2 and a half hours. I'm still not convinced that I'm amusing enough to make it interesting, but I'll let you guys give me some feedback when I get it up and running and then I can go from there.
To follow up Blaster Master I played some TMNT 2. Did decently, but ultimately died to Krang near the end. Having refreshed myself on several challenging parts now, I should have no problems on my next run.

I'm taking a bit of a different approach to collecting Dreamcast games. I'm going slow. In the past with other consoles I've felt a need to hoard. Then I end up with mountains of games I've never even tried. With Dreamcast I've decided to take my time. I have just over a dozen games so far. But I'm trying to get ones I really want to play, and then spend serious time with them.
I loved the first Gunbird on PS1 (released in America as Mobile Light Force). And I must say the second is even better. It's got everything that made the first so great -- cutesy witches, colorful bullets in mesmerizing patterns, excellent music, fantastic sprite work -- but the second game has Morrigan!
Normally when I get a new shmup I quarter-feed my way through it the first time. I figure that the goal of most shmups is to continually get better at it. Serious shmuppers are of course always after that 1CC. However I realized something; what's the point of quarter-feeding really? Why not just start at the easiest mode and work your way up? This kind of makes more sense to me. It's a slow progression, where you get better from practice but the game gets harder with each new difficulty.

And I'll be glad to spend some time getting better at Gunbird 2. It's really a wonderful game that I'd highly recommend to all shoot-em-up fans who may have overlooked it.
After a year from my second blog I now have an update with updated stats and trade list at the bottom. All these purchases have been within the past month, it has just been awhile since I bought any games. Link to previous blog: http://www.rfgeneration.c...-Update-11-18-10-1537.php
I found one of the three Japanese/PAL exclusive games on ebay for $15 plus shipping. Air Boarder 64, Complete. I decided to go with the Japanese versions of these games, they seem to be easier to find.

Two new numbers have been added to my goal. I added an 85th Japanese exclusive, Pokemon Stadium (the original one only released in Japan). Also I am counting both copies of Majoras Mask now. So I target goal is now 400 games exact. Hopefully it stays at that.

So, I was annoyed to see that my last blog entry was double, and comments made by me were multiplied. It was the first and last time I blogged from my cell phone. Not sure what caused the side effect of multiple entries, but it is definitely due to my cell phone.
On a side note, I definitely appreciate the feedback left from the last blog post, and didn't mean to comment like 3 times in a row, or double up the last entry, simply happened due to my cell phone doing whatever the heck it did.
Peace!
So I tried out some more Blaster Master tonight and I swear I suck a lot more when I play games on the computer. Yesterday when I gave it a test run on a TV I got to the Crab boss with basically no hiccups along the way. Today It took me all my continues just to make it to him. Also found out the bomb trick doesnt work on him, so I'm gonna have to go about it the old fashioned way.
Since I was struggling so badly I decided to take a break from Blaster Master and do a quick TMNT run. Turned out to be not so quick. I apparently suck at that game now too and it took nearly the rest of my gaming time to conquer what should have taken me 30 mintues. Since I've already got my speed run on youtube for TMNT I wont bother uploading this crappy video of me barely making it through.
So I only got the one game finished tonight, but here are the screens from the last 2 games that didnt make it into my previous blog:

I've almost caught up with my uploading, just missing Castlevania and the first half of Mega Man 6. All the titles below are now linked directly to their youtube video (Thanks to Bickman2k yet again!!. Just click on the one your interested in and enjoy! Please comment or PM if I screwed up and linked to the wrong video in any of the links.
A couple people have expressed interest in hearing me blab about the games while I play through them. Is there much interest in me trying this out? I'm not sure how well it will go, but if there are a few people that want me to give it a go I'll try it out.

Sorry for taking a week off, but things have been hectic lately! As such, I'm including two videos this week showing Arino taking on Astro Robo SASA and Galaga.
Arino infamously has problems completing challenges for shmup titles, so the staff has decided that he needs to overcome this problem by throwing two more shooting titles at him.
Astro Robo SASA is a Japan-only Famicom release. Gameplay revolves around the User collecting energy by floating in the air and shooting to propel the character towards the targets and avoiding the enemies.
Clear Condition: Complete all 16 stages.
Galaga
Everyone knows Galaga, right?! This version is played on the Famicom, and is available in most regions on the Nintendo NES.
Clear Condition: Obtain 10,000 points on a bonus stage.
Greetings, programs!
I knew buying a house and spending time with my beloved through her traumatic health condition would take up most of my writing time, but I really didn't intend on it taking me over half a year to get back here. I can state all manner of excuses, but the reality is that if I'm serious about pursuing my writing career, I need all of the outlets and avenues I have available, and neglecting them only sets me back. Not to mention, I've missed you guys. (Aaaaawwwwwww)
While Adam and I plan to kick the podcast up into higher gears in the near future, I hope to use this blog to not only grow a personal presence here on the site, but to treat it as a developing process of accountability for progressing my intended profession.
I remember how blogs were before Twitter, Facebook, even before LiveJournal; not just articles and thoughts ready for publishing, but personal thoughts, updates in life, and fun social portals. Now that these other services have largely splintered what was once more concentrated (although in the name of speed and functionality,) having a blog lost interest to me, even though I don't use those other media services. I know some have never treated their blogs differently even in the wake of our integrated digital lives, but I suppose I lost interest in treating my own blog in the same fashion as some would a Twitter or Facebook account because i assumed those who would want mini updates or social connectivity would prefer them in those such better suited, more modern methods.
Nevertheless I've come to the conclusion that I can, by nature, be somewhat selfish in a blog if I know the priorities I have for writing one. I need practice in writing, in any format, and if that is the foremost stated intent of this device then I can feel a bit more freedom in the content. Whereas before, I only wanted to write here if I could really build an article in which I both felt a sense of worth in writing and potentially polish for later use. The more 'frivolous' entries felt more like excuses in wasting space and time, a notion I will still have to work to dispel. Now that I have a different intent on my entries, I hope it will liberate my availability, in time and content, even if I perceive the quality or relevance to suffer.
Write what I want to write! That pretty much sums it up. If I develop an article worth front page reading, it may be caught and elevated, and if not, I have no objections. And even though I'm not overtly concerned with critique, I hope any input gained from readers will simply work to forging my skills, whether I agree with such advice or not.
Mentioning such, I will make a comment on one particular aspect of my writing here that I know annoys readership; what could be be colorfully described as 'Block-o-text' Jes writing. Why such long winded sentencing? Why not more pictures that break up the ongoing literary assault? Why make it unnecessarily harder for folks to read?
Believe it or not, this result is intentional, and not because I simply don't care or wish to accommodate those interested. One of the first lessons I find in teaching material for writers is to write what you would want to read. Would I want to read a wall of text? Actually...
Here's what happens to me; I'm reading an article online, the typical two or three simple sentence paragraph, punctuated by pictures, links, and graghs, and my eyes spill over it, searching to gain the gist so I can popcorn my attention to imagery and corollary links of similar interest. I quickly get through what I imagine to be the important components and then jump to something to keep up the pace. I end up with a dozen tabs and windows open, jumping between what I'm interested in that minute or so. It's like when a gamer first discovers emulators: downloading hundreds or thousands of games, then tinkering with a few dozen for a few minutes, rarely investing in one for much time. Sure, I read plenty of articles in their entirety, but my attention has been split, and I don't digest the content as I would sitting down with a good old-fashioned book or magazine article circa '89.
When I find a wall of text in my own reading, it presents itself as a figurative wall to my racing conscious. I slam against it, and have to make a decision; I'm going to focus on this, or not bother with it. With no pictures to paint the mental imagery for me, and sentence structure that may be overtly complex but requires attention to follow, I either focus or ignore.
As pretentious as I freely admit this purpose is, the last thing a serious writer wants is someone to scan their words and not form meaning or worth from them. Focus is the most valuable gift a reader can give an author, and we writers have precious few tools left in the era of hyperlinks and flash animation. Presenting material in a way that forces such attention can be annoying and frustrating; I know I certainly don't always stop to read it. I didn't read Doonesbury for years because it took so much more work to glance over than Far Side or Garfield. Now I ignore it for other reasons, but that's material for another time...
I write in this style because even though those who get through it all may not care for the style and format, it is much more likely they will have thought about what was written. It's not that I don't care about the reader whom I loose because they see that wall and want to move on; I honestly do. I'm not trying to use some obnoxious trick to separate intellect or intent. I don't pretend that anything I write has any special relevance or meaning above any other author. On the other hand, my goal for writing is not to collect the most readers, in this or other formats; it is for conversation. I have found this method produces the best results for the fulfillment of that desire. So, at the known risk of coming across as pretentious, I build these walls so once scaled, we have something to chat about on the other side. Will it be of any more worth or importance than any other chat? Not necessarily at all. But hopefully we'll at least be holding a conversation instead of nodding, shaking our heads, or shrugging before moving on.
Hey everyone. A while back I posted a blog about my strategy guide collection and hopefully someday we can add them on here. My brother is working on developing a site that anyone can upload their Strategy Guides, gaming magazines (Nintendo Power, Game Pro, Game Expert, etc.). Again this site is under development so once it is up and running we could use everyone's help to build a database (hopefully we can work closely with RF Generation). SO I promised a while back that I would post pictures of our Strategy Guides. But first a list of my favorites and our most valuable.
Favorites: 1. Batman Arkham City Limited Edition Guide 2. Kingdom Hearts 1 & II 3. Legend of Zelda - All the ones we have 4. All our official Nintendo Players Guides such as Final Fantasy 3 and Chrono Trigger, and more. 5. Secret of Mana There's more but these are to just name a few.
Most Expensive: 1. Legend of Zelda Tips and Tactics 2. Lego Star Wars Complete Saga 3. Lego Indiana Jones 1 4. Chrono Trigger 5. Breath of Fire 1 & 2 Those are just some I could think of which are kind of pricey but there are some more. So here are the pictures enjoy!

November is set to be one heck of a month for video game companies. With the economy in a, well, let's face it, bad situation, game companies are banking on the holiday season to fill their coffers for one more year. Here is just a short list of what is expected to be released next month:
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - 11/01 Sonic Generations - 11/01 Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - 11/08 LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 - 11/11 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - 11/11 Assassin's Creed Revelations - 11/15 Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary - 11/15 Need for Speed: The Run Limited Edition - 11/15 Saints Row The Third - 11/15
Mind you, this is the short list for games being released next month. Keep a look out for reviews and other information as it comes in to the site!

Hey fellow game collector's. I pre-order and picked up Batman Arkham City Collector's Edition from Game Stop on Tuesday. The game play is fantastic, it's a good improvement from Batman: Arkham Asylum. During the game you start off as Bruce Wayne, then turn into Batman, then you play a few levels of Catwoman. This is just for starters as I have yet to complete the game, but it will take a while with all the side missions and Riddler Trophies. The map is huge!! A great improvement is you start with some pretty cool items, you can take down more than one enemy at a time now, and you can counter on more than one person. Catwoman is fast moving and quite fun to play as.
Now on to the Unveiling, the Xbox 360 and PS3 both come with a Batman Statue in his crouch or pounce position, the statue is great and very well designed. When you open the box it folds out and you have the city at your hands as it looks (yes there will be pictures posted). On the back side of the opened case is where you find the art book and your instructions, one in English and of course one in Spanish, also it comes with a Batman Arkham City Catalog. But in the back of the art book is the game disc. Then in the front you have this drawer where all the bonus material is. The first item(s) are three code redeems 1. Play As Catwoman Download, 2. Batman: The Dark Knight Rises Skin 3. Iceberg Lounge Challenge Map. Then the next thing is a Beta test for Gotham City Imposters, then there is a Collector's Edition Exclusive for Batman Arkham City The Album. The Final Item and most confusing one at that: Batman Gotham Knights it says on the back of the Game Box its supposed to be Blu-Ray but I think it is a misprint as mine comes with a DVD (ANYONE ELSE HAS THIS PROBLEM FOR XBOX 360 Version LET ME KNOW!) honestly I think it's supposed to be the DVD because Xbox as we know doesn't support Blu-Ray Discs. But I guess there are some other issues. But I emailed the appropriate people to see if this problem will be fixed. Although I think it's kind of unique and cool to have an error.
Also I bought the hardcover Limited Edition Strategy Guide. I have the Batman Cover and there is a Catwoman cover out there. It comes with litographs. This guide is pretty cool.
Now here are the pictures.

I am an not a huge fan of 3D fighting games, but Dead Or Alive surprised me back on the the PlayStation. However, the PS2 release of DOA: Hardcore didn't really do as much for me as the original game. For some reason, it just didn't even feel like it was good enough (in appearance or gameplay) to be a PS2 game. The funny thing is, Hardcore was actually an upgraded revision of Dead Or Alive 2 for Dreamcast. And yet, I find this original version (there were apparently eleven variations of DOA2 released throughout various regions and systems) to be completely amazing.
Perhaps part of it is that I can't even believe how great this game looks running on 1999 hardware. The jump from blockiness to this is staggering from the first game to the second. I also found the controls far more responsive than in the original -- though of course the DC controller is not meant for fighters. Luckily the Agetec arcade stick exists, as I wouldn't have been able to play this game otherwise. (I should also mention I'm trying to get my hands on one of those Ascii fight pads if anyone has one they want to trade). The music is also incredible. After running through Story Mode with Kasumi, I cranked the end credits music and pondered seeking out the soundtrack.
As you can see, my new Dreamcast collection is slowly growing. I'm just around a dozen games now. But it looks like I have a rather amazing library to disover ahead of me.
Brought my trust old VCR with me this outing and recorded runs for both Metal Storm and Journey to Silius. Turned out I finished them much quicker than expected and had some extra time so I did second run for both and was able to do both games without using a continue. Hopefully that will make the videos more entertaining since you dont have to watch me die and redo the same areas over and over again. It also means the file size will be smaller and they will upload much quicker . It does mean that I dont have a screen shot yet until I get a chance to move them onto my computer though. I'll try to get them uplaoded soon though so dont worry.
Had enough time to also give a test run on Blaster Master since its been years since I've touched it. Turns out I remembered where to go surprisingly well and made it to my least favorite boss (Stage 6, Bubble Crab) in about an hour. Since it went fairly smooth, up to the crab at least, I'll try to have a run recorded for Blaster Master in the next couple days. If anyone has any tips for beating that damn Crab I'm all ears.
Now for what you've all been waiting for.......the Air Fortress update. After spending what I assume to be around 5-6 hours playing Stage 6 I was finally able to conquer it!! Much to my intense pleasure, Stage 7 was very easy and I finished it on my second attempt. Stage 8 was a little tougher and took me a couple hours to figure out, but compared to Stage 6 it was quite tame. I was very happy to escape the final stage, but that joy quickly turned into projectile vomiting as it turns out there is a Ghosts 'n Goblins sytle second quest. I played the first area to see how different it was from the first go around. The layout of the Fortresses is identical to the first time around, they just add more and tougher baddies. So while I didnt get the True Ending, I am satisfied with calling this one beaten for the purpose of my challenge and I made sure to write down the code to continue on with the Second Quest if I ever want to revisit the game. The game was a lot harder than I initially thought, but I did really enjoy it.
I had to record several chunks of video (Stages 1-4, Stage 5, Stage 6-7, and Stage 8 ) seperately because of how many attempts some of the later stages took. I'm going to merge them into one video to upload to youtube. Let me know if you like it like that or if I should just keep them as 4 seperate videos in the future.
Here is the much anticipated Air Fortress Ending Screen:

So I have been generally happy with my 32" screen since I bought it back in 2005, but over the past several months I found it more and more annoying that I couldn't see very well from my couch.
Over the past few weeks I really was feeling annoyed since the cold weather is making gaming more critical, more of my friends are online, etc. Well best buy decided to have a sale on hdtvs. This was my time to pounce.
So I get to best buy and what brought me in was the idea of a 46" 1080p lcd for $500. I get there and start looking around. Immediately a sales rep asks if he can help me, so I tell him I am interested in a flatpanel tv.
He starts talking about this and that, which I am barely listening to since I am well informed when it comes to technology. At any rate I see a 55" on sale for $850. This caught my eye since 55" is what I really want.
So I am about to pull the trigger on it when I find out it only has optical audio out. This is a problem for me since my receiver is old as dirt and has no optical inputs. The sales rep jumps into action and suggests that he may ne able to get me the insignia equivalent to what I was looking for.
Great, he finds one, it has analog audio out, and I'm out of my mind excited. I finally have it I thought, the tv I have been looking for at a price I wanted.
So he brings the box out and I think "oh boy gonna be a tight fit" in my '08 civic Si four door. Yeah not even close.
So I call my roommate who has a jeep Cherokee and it barely fit. Got it home, set it up, and loaded up battlefield bad company 2. Wow, I am psyched! I load up some other games, sweet!
At this point I'm ready to setup the genesis, Saturn, and dreamcast. Wait a second, there is no composite input! Nooo! So, quickly I try to figure out how to resolve this issue since I won't relegate my segas to the 32".
Well it turns out there are composite to hdmi upconverter available, so I ordered one. Fortunately I have the er converter for the genesis so I hooked that up in the meantime and loaded up ghouls and ghosts and it was epic!
So basically the point here is if you are looking for a way to enhance your gaming experience and don't have a big tv, go get one it will enhance your entire game library.
