Here it is after the second coat of paint. It looks considerably darker after the second coat. I didnt think it would make a huge difference but it sure did. As you can see im no expert painter (lots of little mistakes if you look around for them), but Im still very happy with how it turned out.

Now that its painted I just have to get a hold of my shelving guy again and see when he can come give me a hand. So the next update should be one of my favorites!!!

This year I was fortunate enough to receive a Nintendo Switch console before Father's Day from my wife and kids. It was a wonderful moment, especially considering I hadn't planned on purchasing one for another year (at least). Despite this, I still had a nice list of games to buy, with one in particular standing out as an early purchase due the nostalgia that bubbled up whenever I read an article about it.
On Father's Day, imagine my surprise when the gift bag I assumed would hold a t-shirt and some homemade cards (which it did) also contained that very game I was wanting, that being SNK 40th Anniversary Collection (SNK 40th) for my new Switch!

First off because I really want one. Then there is the other painfully obvious reason of it is very expensive and I don't readily have the money available for it. Instead lets focus on the first reason. I have heard that the NWC cart is a blast to play! I refuse to play this game via emulation. I'm just weird that way. So give me the NWC cart so I can experience the thrill of playing it. Oh, having it in the collection wouldn't be so bad either.

So I finally got (mostly) everything in order. I got my friend to meet me at Home Depot and we picked up our first batch of supplies. It was very exciting for me becuase its definately feeling like its "happening" now. We brought them to my place and did one last look over what we wish to accomplish, to make sure we were on the same page. After hammering out some details and mixed messages we had I think we've got it figured out. But before we could start putting anything up, since we are mounting right on the wall, we decided it would be best to paint the room first. Or at least the closet where the shelving it being mounted.
So on Monday I took my son back to Home Depot with me and we bugged the painting department for a good 40 minutes asking questions, getting tips and buying paint and supplies for the walls and trim. I've painted about 4 rooms in the last year and a bit in preperation for painting this room, so I'm feeling more confident about it than I would have before.
Spent some time on Tuesday (with my little helper featured in a picture or two below), and cleared out the room, sanded the shelving boards, removing closet doors and taping off sections of the room with painters tape. The plan is to prime the room tomorrow night, first coat on the walls Thursday night, and hopefully a second coat during the day sometime on Thursday. I will find time to do the trim later on, its just important to get the closet painted first so we can get the shelves up this weekend.

So I just wanted to thank Logical123, Cverz, Izret, Tholly , NES Rules, Feechy and Antimind again. Not only did I play and cherish the games I got from all of you, but your boxes came in quite handy too!!
Hello. This is my first post in my RF Generation blog. So, I'll start off by saying just a little about myself. I enjoy collecting retro games and consoles at thrift stores and yard sales. however, being 16, my methods of transportation are very limited. Also, my area thrift shop has seemed to run dry; and their gaming-related goods they have for sale have become extremely pricey. The garage sales around here aren't so great, either. But, i still eventually find some good deals/rare items now and again.
It may not seem like it, but for me, this was a GOOD weekend. i managed to snag a few pretty sweet deals.
The first stop out of two this weekend (i said transportation was limited) was at a nice record store near my grandfather's house. They sell whatever games they are given, retro, new, handheld, whatever. Their prices are generally really cheap. However, i noticed that they recently started to dramatically jack up NES cart prices- which sucks for me. This week i was VERY pressed for time (i was in the store for like 5 minutes!). But, i did manage to pick up a copy of "A Bug's Life" for ps1 foe $1.99, and a copy of "Mirror's Edge" for Xbox 360 for $12.99. No spectacular deals, but, i was pleased.
My next and last stop was at a garage sale less than a block away from my house. i went in with low expectations, due to the abundance of clothing and antiques. Just as i was ready to leave i spotted a little blue handheld on a table where it looked like kids had been selling lemonade. i knew right away what it was: a NeoGeo Pocket Color. Very nice! however, i thought it may have belonged to one of the kids selling lemonade. But, to my surprise, it had a price tag on it. $3! yea! And it was minty; absolutely no scuffs or scratches anywhere. It also came with a copy of "Sonic Pocket Adventure". Without hesitation, i bought it and walked home with a smile on my face.

It's been quite a while since we've done one of these, and really it's a shame it's been so long. We really don't have much of a site without submissions, and we depend on YOU, the members for those submissions. Without submissions, the site doesn't grow and that certainly isn't a good thing. So, as a small token of appreciation, I'm bringing this segment back to give thanks to those of you that have donated your time and efforts in providing scans and information to help expand THE Classic and Modern Video Games Database.

My wife was at the local pool hall with some clients last night and noticed the Arcade Repair guy was there and swearing at some of the machines. She started talking with him and he said he had a house full of working and half working pinball/arcade machines and he wanted to get rid of some of the for cheap. She got his number and I gave him a call today.
He lives about an hour away so we arranged that I come check his stuff out next wednesday or thursday to see what he's got. His idea of cheap sounds a lot different than mine, but who knows he may have something I can get for a reasonable price for my new game room.

I've got some bad news. When I called the guy who was going to help me do some shelving today, and told him to come hungry cause we were going to make him a steak dinner, he said some roofing material that he had been waiting on for 3 weeks finally came in today. That meant he had to pull some overtime at work and couldnt make it to my place today. We reshceduled for Sunday afternoon, so now I've got my fingers crossed.
Its like Christmas has been postponed
Trying to add games from my basic games list to this RF Generation is irritating to say the least. I've got a list of thirty-something games so far I have to go and find the information for and submit them. However on the flip side, I do love the fact that I'm actually contributing to something I love.
While I write this, D&DO Unlimited is downloading. I tried the game a while back and in groups, it is rather fun. It seems more involving than WoW, less "DPS" and more focusing on skills and abilities that the group possesses. Being a rogue, for example, means you can pick locks and find/disable traps, which is useful especially when a trap can take out the whole group. The rogue can do damage, but in combat they are best found either skulking around trying to pick off targets that are distracted, or at the back with a repeater crossbow. Complete difference to WoW, where the rogues are more scary than any of the other classes put together.
ok this is my second review bit this time its a Wii game specifically a Wiiware Game called Contra Rebirth. I will rate gameplay, sound, story, controls, difficulty, and replay value THIS REVIEW DOES CONTAIN SOME SMALL SPOILERS ABOUT UNLOCKABLES! So anyway on with the review!

Overall the Story like any other contra game so nothing really to new to it
Controls 9.0/10
Controls are pretty much like any other contra game. You can shoot jump and switch between weapons, but more on that later/
Sound/Music 7.0/10
The sounds of the game are a cross between Contra 4 for DS and the original arcade version. Music is pretty well done nothing too special though.
Graphics 8.0/10
Graphics are very similar to Contra 4 so nothing special here either
Gameplay/Difficulty 8/10
Ok game is similar to the SNES Contra III: Alien Wars, by that I mean you can have two weapons at once. Oh and I recommend playing with a Classic Controller or Gamecube Controller because if you don't you will have to set the button to switch between weapons, but still I find it easier with the Classic and Gamecube Controllers. Weapons is where this game falters a bit because there are only 4 weapons Normal Gun (Machine Gun), Spread Gun, Laser, and Homing Missile. This game is also 2 players. Difficulty is pretty much like any other Contra but you get unlimited continues so it's pretty easy, but it can be frustrating. There are 5 levels. Also in the options you can change lives, (max is seven lives) screen layout , and others.
Replay value 7.5/10
Replay value is pretty good considering there is 4 unlockable things. They are:
Nightmare Difficulty - Beat Hard Difficulty
BR-W9 - Beat Easy Difficulty
Plissken - Beat Normal Difficulty
Nightmare difficulty is what makes it interesting because every time you kill an enemy a fire ball and blue orb come out and try to kill you so it makes a a little more replayable .
Overall 8.0/10
If you are a Contra fan and have 10 bucks or 1.000 Wi Points buy it You'll enjoy I think its worth it.
I'm writing this on the 10th March 2009 and when it appears on the 1st September 2009, it will commemorate my 1 year anniversary of collecting games for the Sega Mega CD. The games on this Top 5 list will be games that for their price and rarity, I may never get these games at all.

After several weeks of mediocre finds, I finally have some really good stuff to report on. I didn't get a lot of sales, two all weekend to be exact, but one was great and the other was absolutely amazing. I even managed to find one of my personal "Holy Grails" although, I have to admit, I kind of had forgotten I really even wanted one since I've been looking so long for it and haven't seen it at a good price in the years I've been collecting.
