All in all, turned out to be a great weekend for treasure hunting. Not a whole lot on Saturday because we had a family thing at 1pm so the garage saling had to be cut short. After a few minutes no one was coming out so I just asked the kid, he ran inside and a few minutes later returned, and said they were $25, so I looked at them and asked if I could throw in a pile of wires that were nearby. He said "I guess so" and I paid him, but as I'm walking down the driveway, I ran into someone I know that lives nearby and we talked for a short while until the kid comes out. He basically said that he was mistaken on the prices and it was $25 for each system. So right now I'm pissed because I had to stop and talk, if I hadn't I would have been long out of there. So I walk the stuff back up to the garage and get my money back. But then, as I'm almost at the truck, the kid comes running back and tells me that he was mistaken again and they were $25 for both. WTF??? So I give the money back and get the systems (and the nice plastic bin in the picture) and ran out of there before he could change his mind again. Another sale had boxes of junk lining both sides of the driveway (one of my favorite types) I picked out a PSOne power adapter from one and asked for a price. "$0.25" a woman replied. "All right, this stuff's cheap" I thought to myself, so I rummaged through a few more boxes and picked out some loose PS1 games, a couple more random cords, a deck of new playing cards, a PS1 3rd party joystick, and a PS1 3rd party controller. I take the handful of stuff up to the woman and offer $1. She actually laughed in my face and said "oh no, I remember how expensive those controllers were." Like I really care she was stupid enough to buy garbage controllers 10 years ago. So I put most of it back and got the remainder for $0.50. Another guy had a couple large boxes of games with a sign saying "cartridge games $1 each" so I skimmed through them, but they were 99.9% sports games and common Atari games. But I decided to actually look at them all, and found a couple worth buying. I actually bought them just because I didn't own them, later I found out some are quite rare.I did find it funny though that while I was looking the vendor was talking to another buy about how much he loved sports games back then and that's why there were so many. I don't care how much you love sports, you don't purposefully buy 10 copies of Shaq-Fu. As I walked by one of the last vendors' booth, I spotted something out of the corner of my eye, looked like some old Pong unit, so I walked back to it. It was sitting with some overpriced vintage clocks, so I figured it'd be overpriced as well. But, it was marked $1 and I was ready to pay that, but I asked the guy if he had the power cord for it. He said "no, but I've got these other ones here and the cord ares the same" and he handed me a box with two more pong units. He said I could have them all for $1. However, the Coleco (the one missing the power cord) also runs on 6 C cells so I was able to test it without the cord.

Either some idiot potential buyer or the vendor opened it to see what was inside. Everything inside looks new also, even smells new. I've got a question this too, is this a variation of the one already in the database (http://www.rfgeneration.c...ics.pl?ID=E-040-S-05000-A). The UPC is the same, but the part #'s are different, mine is 79096-05. Also mine has a little piece on the cover that says "Limited Edition include free souvenir booklet" and has a large white oval sticker that says "For play on Sega Genesis and Sega Mega Drive"
Face it, Sonic has had some serious ups and downs. The originals from the Genesis (Mega Drive) days had us going GaGa over Sega. They were fun and extremely fast, two gameplay elements that have eroded over the years. Despite the glory, a number of spinoffs and additional characters crowded out the franchise and a sad serious of spinoffs ensued. Sonic R, Sonic the Fighters, etc. The series got a jump start in 1998 with new freshness that was known as Sonic Adventure. It properly brought the core of the series into the 3D era, and tapped into the heart of the game. Sonic Adventure 2 was no letdown either, delivering the same standard of gameplay.
Of course, we all know what happened from there. A crowded and highly competitive hardware market forced Sega to give the Dreamcast an untimely end. Ports of Sonic Adventure and other classic compilations helped them assume their new role as a third-party developer, but once again the quality began to slide. The Sonic franchise took the blow in stride too. Sonic Heroes, meh; Shadow the Hedgehog, WTF!?; Sonic the Hedgehog (2006), fail, Sonic and the Secret Rings, meh. Hidden gems like Sonic Rush became overlooked as fans lost faith in the series.
Another year, another game. Sonic Unleashed is slated for a 2008 release, and the debut trailer shown earlier in February failed to impress. Recently a new trailer with more gameplay footage has been circulating, and its changing a lot of opinions.
The gameplay switches from 2D to 3D, and the camera transitions are unobtrusive. It's still too early to pass judgement, so we'll have to wait for more news. For now I'll say things aren't looking worse the blue blur.
Space Invaders celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year. 1978-2008. How utterly awesome!
Space Invaders, along with Tetris and Pac-Man, are probably the only games my parents ever played out of will. I may have forced them to try a race or something, but they were from that generation.
Invaders is the definition of a Classic Game. It was one of the best sold arcade cabinets in history, and has been linked to the shortage of money in the late 70s - early 80s in Japan. It was that great!! Having a release on the 2600 boosted its popularity even more.
On June 17th, 2008, in commemoration of its 30th year, Taito/Square Enix released Space Invaders Extreme. Or as I like to call it, Space Invaders for 'our generation'. My first impression was "Whoa!! Trippy!!", because...well it is. It is also TOTALLY FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!!!!
This game is a great 30 year a-toast to a classic. Here's to another 30 years of classic fun!! Happy Birthday Space Invaders!!
Lead designer Tomonobu Itagaki quit Tecmo and filed suit nearly two weeks ago in a dispute over unpaid bonuses. Now another suit has arisen due to a discrepancy in unpaid overtime for the rest of the employees. The suit has been filed by Hiroaki Ozawa and Tatsuo Kakuta, top leaders of the recently formed "Tecmo Labor Union", to represent all 300 remaining Tecmo employees. The plaintiffs assert that Tecmo placed them on an illegal "flexible hours" work schedule four years ago, and since then overtime hours have gone unpaid. A company petition claims over 100 hours a month for employees, and 8.3 million yen are in demand as compensation. Further claims include Tecmo having falsified documents and attempting to cover up documents relating to their shady accounting practices.
I don't know if there's anyone out there who waits fo this each week, but in case there is, I'm sorry it's late this week. I haven't quite gotten use to 40 hour work weeks yet, so this was on the back burner until now.
Not a bad weekend, much better than I was expecting it to be actually. On Thursday, my sister called me to ask if I would house/dog-sit for her while she and her husband went away for the night. I didn't really want to, but I agreed because their fridge is always stocked full of beer. Although, there was nearly no food in the house... Anyway, on Friday evening, I see a post on FreeCycle from a guy who is always posting good stuff that I never manage to get, this one entitled "Assorted Game Pads" I figured it was a bunch of dirty/broken Atari joysticks and paddles, but since I was at my sister's house, I was only a few minutes away, so I sent a reply and hoped for a response. As Saturday came around, the plan my dad and I had made for garage saling went to shit. He was supposed to pick me up at 8:30 and then we'd head out for the sales. By the time 10:00 rolled around he still wasn't there, so I called him and he said that he didn't think I wanted to go. The bullets on the left are nearly identical to what I use now, so they'll be for hunting, the others are for target practice. I was really excited when I saw the sweatshirt because it was marked $0.75 and fit me perfectly, and it was the first thing on a rack of nice hunting clothing. Unfortunately, it was the only thing on the rack priced cheaply. I was tempted to buy another pair of brush pants, but they weren't insulated and not that cheap ($15).
Also in the trash, I got a table-top air hockey table which I'll probably sell for a few bucks, and a 2 video cables from a pair of PC monitors and a power cord. I'll splice the VGA cables together, so I can use my LCD TV as a PC monitor.
On Saturday afternoon, my sister called to say they were staying an extra night, which meant I had to stay another night, but I planned on going to the flea market on my way home Sunday morning. But they ended up coming home at 11:00 that night, and they blocked me in the driveway, so I couldn't leave until they got up around 10:00 so by the time I got to the flea market it would have been around 11:00 which is really too late for good deals, so I didn't bother. However, my dad did go and he picked me up a PlayStation Mad Catz MC2 steering wheel he got from the trash. The cable that connects the pedals to the steering wheel is cut though, so I need to find out which wires go to which pins so I can solder on a new plug.
Pretty light week for consoles, but a great week for handhelds.

Secret Agent Clank seems good enough based on the demo, but sort of lacking the heart and soul of the Insomniac developed games. However, there is one game that each and every one of you must buy and that is Space Invaders Extreme. I don't care if you hate buying games for full price, this is one that you need to buy. I've played the Japanese demo for the PSP, and it is a STUNNING update of the classic. The game is just like the original but now there's boss stages, bonus stages, colored enemy matching, and a new remixed techno soundtrack. Just go buy it dammit! It's only $20 on your platform of choice.
Quick update: The US edition of Space Invaders Extreme does not have support for the DS rotor controller. If you want to play this game with the rotor controller, import it.
There's no intro needed I guess, here's part 2 of my Video game card collection. Not too much to say about these. They were E-reader cards that were used with the GBA port of Super Mario 3. I got them for free so I decided to throw them in. Just seeing the sprites again brings back fond memories. From Artbox is the Megaman Anniversary Card set. I loved Megaman since I was little so I had to hunt these down. They feature some pretty neat artwork and cover everything from the original series to the Zero series. After buying about 120 packs of these (thankfully I found a good deal) I almost have the complete collection of these I just need the Bass & Treble Holo card. Maybe one day I'll find it. And finally the only Japanese cards in my collection features one of my favorite RPG series, the Tales of series. Some of the games featured are Destiny, Symphonia, Abyss, Eternia(or Destiny 2 here in the states) Phantasia and Lagaendia. I have a lot of the major character, save for Raine and Kratos from Tales of Symphonia. I like the art and design of these also, I wish they would translate these in to English, I'm curious of how to play this game.

That’s bound to happen when Procter and Gamble happens to be based in your city. You know, Ivory Soap, Tide, Pringles, Gillette, Old Spice, Febreeze, etc… that company. Not to mention all of their recent divestures, we are home to the company who spends lots of money on their brands. In fact, they spend the most money of any company. Some companies try very hard to be good at advertising. They try very hard to project an image. They’re so good that they do so at the expense of royally ticking off their old fan base. Nintendo seems to be that brand. It’s sad though, as they try to be just like Apple, but that’s hard when you have people like Laurent Fischer.

Today was a good day for last gen gaming. All last gen games had cases, most had manuals too

Now, Civil Engineers do a lot of things. Designing Bridges, Creating Dams, Building Things, Creating Traffic Jams, Mitigating Floods, yeah, we do all that and much more. See, there is this thing though. Most, if not all Civil Engineers specialize in something. I, for example, specialized in transportation. Seamar, specialized in structures. See, from an ethics standpoint, we agree only to practice in the fields we're competent in. We know better than do attempt to do something when we have no idea how. So, we know better than than to do and market things that we have no idea how to do, so why does Microsoft then try to do something it doesn't really know how to do?
Microsoft does a bunch of things well. I personally enjoy their Wireless Mice and Keyboards. Windows XP was and still is amazing. So Microsoft can in fact do things well. But there are certain things that Microsoft doesn't do well. Vista, for example. Windows 98 is to Windows XP like Windows Me is to Windows Vista. So, some things that Microsoft do are just terrible.
So, Microsoft has this wonderful little console that many of you might lovingly refer to as the Microsoft Xbox 360. It's lovely little console, but it had some problems. These problems caused Microsoft to issue a recall for the 360, and with that recall came quite a monetary hit on their ledger. So, what caused this problem?
So, this wonderful guy at the Gartner Group, Bryan Lewis, who happens to be their research VP and chief analyst, has stated that the source of their gigantic recall lies in the fact that Microsoft decided to design their original GPU by themselves. Did you know that Microsoft designs GPUs? Neither did I. When I think Graphics Accelerator, I think NVidia and ATI. Turns out, once a massive recall is initiated, that Microsoft also thinks ATI for their graphics needs, as that's who they contracted to redesign their 360 GPU.
Here's to you, Microsoft. If only you had used ATI or NVidia to begin with, you wouldn't have had this massive recall and all those extended warranties. I bet you all don't care, as your warranties are longer. But then, there are probably several of you who wish they didn't have to send their 360 in because of a RRoD. If only Microsoft stuck to what it could do well and contracted out that what it couldn't, you might have never had to send out your 360.
I've been meaning to write another blog for a while now so I've decided to write about some of the other video game stuff I've collected over the years. Since I was younger I loved card games. Starting with Poke'mon I moved to DBZ, then Yu-Gi-Oh, then to dot//HACK, and last Magic The Gathering. I was a senior in High School when I decided to quit playing/collecting and sold all my cards. This eventually lead to me collecting Video game but that's a different story. Anyways my love of collecting cards never really faded and after a friend from work gave me a bunch of Nintendo Power Super Power Club cards I decided to collect Video game cards. The first few pages are filled with the scratch off/ sticker cards from Nintendo's Game Packs made by Topps. I wish I knew about these when I was younger. These are almost 20 years old so the stickers don't stick well and the scratch off material have kinda set in. The stickers have little tips that cover the 6 games the cards depict: Super Mario Bro., Super Mario Bros. 2, The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, Punch Out! and Double Dragon. I managed to buy a whole display bow of these with the box but sadly it has a big black X on it. This is the only Complete set I have in this binder, Im lucky I guess to get them all in one box. Next is the Nintendo Power cards. For a time in Nintendo Power printed these cards and put 6 of them in issues for fan of the magazine to collect and trade. They featured Nintendo, Super Nintendo and Gameboy games. On the back of each is a description of each game and 3 challenges for Novice, Intermediate and Pro players. There are a lot of these to my understanding and I'm just happy to have some of my favorites like Final Fantasy 3, illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer and Super Metroid. Not pictured, but I also have a few non Power Club Cards from Nintendo Power, a set of Mortal Kombat 3 cards and Mega Man X2 Cards featuring the Robot Masters. After all this is the UFS Series. These are actually Card Game cards. The UFS series covered a few different Fighting franchises including DarkStalkers, Street Fighter and my all time favorite Soul Calibur. I really enjoy the artwork of these and it kind of makes me want to pick it up and find someone else to play with. I have a few different copies of my favorite characters and 3 starter decks. Most of them are Soul Calibur except for a few Chun-Li cards in back.

Gamers love GTA IV and its gritty, realistic, and wide open world. Well, one guy likes GTA IV so much that he decided to recreate the intro to the classic Leslie Nielson comedy The Naked Gun inside of the game. The result is nothing short of spectacular.
Friday was a hot and miserable day, I think it was over 90 for the majority of the day, but it was probably my last Friday to go garage saling this season (or at least for the next 10 weeks) so I had to go. In the end, the only thing I came home with was a wheelbarrow I picked up in the trash. It's actually in good shape, but not something I needed.
Luckily Saturday was a little better, although just as hot.
We started out by going to a somewhat large community sale, I didn't find much but my dad got some stuff. It actually came from a Sportsman's club I didn't know existed and I might end up joining because it was pretty nice.

I would have offered $0.50 for both but it was a kid selling them and he had them priced so cheaply anyway. And they're in really good shape for kid-owned games.

I told her that I did but wasn't interested in it but she told me I could have it and actually insisted I take it. It had a $2 sticker on it but was marked down to $0.25.

The system powers on and the game plays but the controller ports don't seem to work. The only good thing is that it has the digital video output (those are still in demand, right?) and it was $5 for it all.
Today was a good day at the flea market, despite the fact that the indoors part of it burned down Thursday afternoon. And damn, it was burnt all the way down, the only thing left of the 80-something year old building were the bent and twisted steel girders. In the end of the building where the fire started you could see some any of the metal stuff inside that hadn't moved, like the metal shelving, washers & driers, it was kind of creepy looking actually. They even had security guards posted around the remains to keep people from stealing the scrap metal!
Anyway, what I brought home: [img width=700 height=524]http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j22/Mike_2_0_0_6/Game%20Collection/2008%20Scores/DSCN9458.jpg[/img] The SEALED Game Boy Rechargeable Battery Pack/ AC Adapter was $5. This is now the 4th sealed GB accessory I own, I wonder where they're coming from and why I can't find any sealed NES stuff. The Super Mario Galaxy (CIB) was $25, I'm very excited for that because I was going to get it for $40 at GameStop sometime this week.

So I picked up the PS1 game and gave her $10. She had a Japanese Soul Calibur II for GameCube also and I thought about buying it but I've got no way to play it so I didn't and I'm not sure if it was her or another guy looking, but one of them had really bad BO and I had to get out of there.
Oh and Blast Works for the Wii looks great as well.
There's also Nascar 09 (PS3, 360, PS2), Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit (PS3, 360), Don King Presents Prizefighter (360), Backyard Baseball '09 (Wii), Jake Hunter: Detective Chronicles (DS), and more crappy DS shovelware, but who cares? There's only one game that TRULY matters this week.
There are some games that people just think are pipe dreams. Games, in development for so long that many of you were not even Teens yet. Games in development for 12 long, painful years. A game that lends its abbreviation to imply something that is destined to never come out. You know, that game.

Space Invaders celebrates its 30th Anniversary this year. 1978-2008. How utterly awesome!
Secret Agent Clank seems good enough based on the demo, but sort of lacking the heart and soul of the Insomniac developed games. However, there is one game that each and every one of you must buy and that is Space Invaders Extreme. I don't care if you hate buying games for full price, this is one that you need to buy. I've played the Japanese demo for the PSP, and it is a STUNNING update of the classic. The game is just like the original but now there's boss stages, bonus stages, colored enemy matching, and a new remixed techno soundtrack. Just go buy it dammit! It's only $20 on your platform of choice.
