Overview:
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Gateway to the Savage Frontier for IBM MS-DOS and compatibles is the first game released in Savage Frontier story cycle, and the seventh title in the venerable "Gold Box" series of Dungeons & Dragons computer role playing games. It is the first of the Gold Box games not to be developed internally at Strategic Simulations, Inc., rather Beyond Software, Inc. (though many sources incorrectly report Stormfront Studios). It was released in 1991. Party data from save games can be transferred for usage in the sequel, Treasures of the Savage Frontier.
While still set in the Forgotten Realms (Dungeons & Dragons world from the main-line Gold Box games), the location is far to the west of the lands featured in Pool of Radiance. The player controls a party of characters fresh in the city of Yartar, who settle into for a night of revelry, only to awaken the next day robbed of their money and nearly all their belongings. All that's left to do is to track down the thieves and get back their stolen goods, but of course, such tasks can never be that easy.
