The game had two of the best American basketball players at the time compete against each other. They were:
- Michael Jeffrey Jordan (b 1963) was a professional American Basketball player who played for the Chicago Bulls (1984 1993, 1995 1998) and the Washington Wizards (2001 2003). He also played Baseball for various teams in 1994 before returning to basketball. Jordan was a NBA Champion six times, won two golds with the USA team in 1984 and 1992, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009.
- Larry Joe Bird (b 1956) was a professional American Basketball player and coach who played for the Boston Celtics (1979 1992) and coached the Indiana Pacers (1997 2000). Bird was a NBA Champion three times, won Gold at the 1992 olympics with the USA team and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998.
