- The downloadable edition does not include the "Beyond the Apex" documentary, which is only found on the Blu-ray edition of the game. The documentary offers a look at the history of the Gran Turismo series and a glimpse behind the scenes of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
- The Blu-ray edition of the game has all of the GT-TV videos stored on the disc, whereas the downloadable edition retrieves them on-demand from the internet.
- The other major difference between the download and the retail version is that the downloadable version only requires 1.78 GB of hard drive space, whereas the retail edition requires 5.3 GB.
- In addition, this game has some fairly restrictive Digital Rights Management implemented. You can only download it to one PS3 system, play the game on just one user account on your PS3, and that user must be logged into the Playstation Network to play the game (even on single player).
