A Momentary Lapse of Awesome

Do you ever get distracted and busy? Does it make you put off doing things? I did that these last several weeks. I realized I was about to make a post in the small scores thread that had about a dozen pictures in it, then I also remembered I had a blog!

So here is some stuff I got, mostly small scores worthy but maybe too much to post at once.

The bulk of my game purchases of late have been from just one place. There is a thrift store nearby I like to give money to, so I make a point of going there at least every few weeks. Usually I just buy whatever they have as far as game stuff, sometimes it's actually neat.

This was just under $5. I found two copies of a Christian FPS made in 2000 called Catechumen. Reading the Wiki page for it makes the game sounds rather dark
http://en.wikipedia.org/w...techumen_%28video_game%29
Also found a sealed Taco Bell Centipede, Splinter Cell guide and a shiny circle of Don Henley. There was also that Let's Ride! Dreamer, I think I can wait to play that one.

I found a video speed running Catechumen, speed runs aren't the best way to be introduced to a game and this one is half an hour long on top of that, but, it is the season for that sort of thing....it doesn't look much different than something id would have put out, it fits right in with Heretic and Hexen, just less blood.

Here is a Let's Play of Let's Ride if you're hard up for something to do. It's done by some dude, the little I watched is at least mildly funny.

The Wife and I had a couple over for dinner. He manages a thrift store the next town over. I showed him my video game collection. It was Christmas time. He is awesome.

"Santa" gave me a plug and play of the first pickings from that thrift store, I see a good friendship here.

Speaking of Christmas, here are some non-gaming gifts. My wife gave me this fancy usb stick of a hi-rez recording of a particular stop on Mark Knopfler's latest tour. It's really neat.

My 5 year old nephew gave us these Pez, because if you're five what else would you pick out as gifts?

Maybe you noticed "Zagnorch" is the primary tag for this blog. He is so awesome as to run a yearly NOT-so-secrect-santa were he just gives people gifts. Seeing as I didn't sign up for it, electing to simply enjoy others getting those gifts, I was happily surprised to receive something from the house of 'norch. Actually he sent stuff to both my wife and I.

Zoomed in a little so you can read it, maybe.

I put that beer cozy to use right away. It's always made me wonder why the bottle needs to stay warm once you properly pour the beer into a glass.

The Wife wanted to get some time in on the Little Mermaid game so we got out the Game Gear and played a few rounds.

Then she led me around the house for awhile as I was trying to get my hands on that calculator.

Zag told me in the note he sent the 'enter' button didn't work, two other ones right next to it were out as well, so you get to see what's inside a Ti-86!

These high end graphing calculators can do all sorts of wonderful things, most importantly they can play games. Ever play the HP48 port of Doom? I was excited to get this working.

SirPsycho was regaling us with tales of using vinegar to clean up corrosion the other day, and there was a bit of corrosion on this circuit board. Soon it was all cleaned up and on its way to working like a charm! I'm not sure if SirPsycho said we should mix vinegar with baking soda but I figured, what harm can that do?

After cleaning this up, putting it back together, checking to see if it worked, taking it apart again, cleaning it out more, re-putting it back together, deciding it needed to dry out more, taking it back apart.....I finally got it to work!

Yea!

Awesome!

YAY! I knew you could get it to work, big guy!

BTW I didn't know they made the TI-86 with color screen! If you'll pardon the expression, color me jealous!

On a final note: do you not have an AC adapter for your Game Gear? I know I have a few extras lying around somewhere...

All great stuff, Nupoile.  Surprisingly Catechumen looks pretty playable and fun.  Probably one of the best Christian games I've seen.  Makes me want to boot up Hexen, actually.  Awesome job with the TI!  Amazing what you can do with vinegar and some backing soda.

Some really interesting pick-ups there. I didn't know there was such a thing as a Christian FPS outside of Noah's Ark 3D. Also interesting to see that calculator playing some awesome Neo Geo Pocket Color games! What will they think of next? Wink
