Hey there. If you're here, you're likely either a gamer or collector, but some of you might actually have other interests, and enjoy doing other things as well. I know that I sure do. One of the fun things that we do around here is about this time every year we have a fantasy football league. It's a good time, and we all have fun doing it. The question is... why aren't you doing it? You too could join in all the fun and potential smack talk just like the rest of us. It's really a good time, and we hope to see you there.

We're aware of some things being out of whack. We're looking into it, and hope to have it resolved. Stay Tuned.

Edit: We're back... again. Somethings happened, and our host is getting to the bottom of why it happened so that it doesn't happen again. You might notice intermittent slowness, and somethings might be temporarily disabled, but for now, we're back... again.

So... Our great site rfgeneration.com has this really awesome thing called a chat room. And it's just that, AWESOME! I know that personally, I've had some great times in the chat room, and I can assure you all that others have too.

You got a question but don't want to wait for a reply to your post? Then you could go over to the chat and ask. you would get an answer. Bar none. At least, that's how it used to be...

The chat here at rfgeneration has become a ghost town, a miserable excuse for the BEST GAME SITE EVER! Malygris is almost always in there, and I frequently stop by. So do others. But if you're the only one in a chat room, don't you normally leave? Of course you do. It's down right boring.

That's why I am blogging to my fellow rfgen'ers, so that we can revive the chat, make it lively again. At least, I hope thats what everyone gets out of this... Wink

The chat is awesome, and I don't like seeing it go to waste. So, hop on over to the rfgeneration chat room, and get CHATTING! Smiley

Goodwill. A great store and friend to some, while an evil enemy to others. What makes Goodwill 'good', or 'bad', or even 'ugly'? Well, this rant is here to tell you! Smiley

The GOOD:
You can find stuff! It always helps to be able to find stuff in the wild. And, Goodwill has a strange habit of ripping themselves off. But sometimes... Well, that leads into...

The BAD:
Sometimes, they overprice! And I mean A LOT! Come on! 4 Bucks for a cib Genesis Sports game?! Ah well... (And then, of course you buy it.) Then comes...

The UGLY:
In a large portion of Goodwills, organization is a huge problem. There are things sterewn acrossed the floor, and... WHAT IS DRIPPING FROM THE CEILING?!!?!? I digress. Goodwill is not, how I say, the cleanest place on earth.

In conclusion, personally, I feel that Goodwill offers a great opportunity to find some games on your lunch break or after school one day. The good is roughly equal to the bad, so I recommend anyone who has the time and the energy to leaf through piles of VHS tapes and books. THUMBS UP! Cheesy

If I am forgetting any of my reviews I submitted feel free to let me know. And honestly, feel free to criticize me as much as you. And final note... I don't really care for my reviews from when I was a Features Writer. The time constraint sorta imposed on me so I didn't really take my time, plus my writing skills have improved tremendously. Also, considering I really don't play videogames seriously anymore I feel like I am a bit more objective about what I am reviewing.

This game will just about get a horrible review anywhere you go. The controls are crappy in the rally races, and even worse when you get to the side-by-side races! In the rally races, the controls are pretty straightforward (A - Accel. B - Special Weapon; Left/Right - Steering; Up - Nitro). When you get to the side-by-side races, the controller is just too damn hard to use. I swear that the people that made the game (Acclaim), must have thought that they needed to use every damn button on the controller, with the exception of the start and select buttons. You have to use the B button for Gas, and the A button for the Transmission Shifting. At the same time that you are accelerating and shifting, you have to simultaneously press left and right on the d-pad to get the damn monster truck moving!
Also, between side-by-side races (which consist of Mud Race, Pull-Off, Car Crunch, and 1 drag race in the last race of the game), you have to use the money that you start with and the money that you earn from winning other races and rallies to buy parts for your truck.
And one of the worst things is what happens with the CPU opponent. When you start the game, you play as the driver of Bigfoot up against a green truck called the Growler. Both the P1 and CPU start with 5000 dollars. If at any point the Growler runs out of money and then crashes in a rally, the game ends for that truck. But, they will automatically put in a new truck that is yellow, called the Charger.
The shit of that is the fact that they give the truck 5 grand, AND doesnt have to buy any new parts for the other races. Now i got the game, simply cuz im a Monster Truck fan, but i CANNOT play this game for more than 5 minutes before i get pissed off and have to turn it off!
I have to say that this game has got to be one of the worst games in the NES library. I cannot find even one redeeming quality about it.

Posted under Site News, Arkanoid DS Nintendo Taito

Following Sirgin's lead, I am also going to be contributing some more reviews. The only difference is, my are short as all hell. They encourage you to make an assumption yourself.

Hurray! A new Arkanoid game!! If you remember Arkanoid for the NES, or Super Arkanoid for the SNES, this game is for you!

Some great things with this game are:

    * Revamped Gameplay integrates stylus use.
    * Great soundtrack that NEVER gets old.
    * The ability to win points to buy things in the game with.
    * Amazing replay value! You can pick this game up again and again!

This game is a 10. I am an easy grader, but this game truly deserves it. Taito has done well with this new version of the classic, as they did in Space Invaders Extreme. The only downfall is, ONLY THE JAPANESE VERSION HAS THE ARKANOID KNOB!! Oh well, the people in Japan always get it better...

I was just playing Super Mario Bros. on my NES about id say about 15-20 minutes ago, and something truly screwed up happened. Now just about everyone on this site knows of the classic 99 lives, turtle shell hopping trick, in world 3-1. Well i was playing and pulled off the trick about, id say, at least 15 times until the time ran out. Then i came back and did it for another 10 times, then just finished off the level. I started up level 3-2, didnt get too far, and then fell off of a platform and died. Then somehow, i got a fucking GAME OVER! Now how in the world did i get a game over?!?!?!? I had to have had at least 60 or 70 lives left! Is there something wrong with the trick or did something just fuck up? Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Now i realize that there are probably hundreds of thousands of gamers my age in high school, but I think that i am a big exception to all of em. Now most of my friends that are my age are the guys that have the PS3, 360 or Wii, especially my best friend, who has a Wii and 360. i am not like any of them. Most of my friends think that i am strange because the most current console that i have is an old xbox. But i actually dont care for most of the next-gen games. In my room, i have the old games. Even my xbox collection has 4 of the games that have 20 or more old skool games. The systems i prefer to play are the Atari 2600, NES, SNES, and Genesis. I mean, i grew up playing the 16-bit games. I grew up playing the SNES and Genesis. I grew up with games like Super Mario World, Super Star Wars, Super Mario All-Stars, and DKC. And strangely, as i got older, i was introduced to 8-bit systems. I first played the NES when i was 8 years old, and back during the winter, my dad gave me his 2600 stuff that he had at the time. It has then since grown by about 20 or 30 games since then. And also, 1 year ago, i bought my own NES. Now my NES and 2600 collections combined have over 100 games.

So, we are back! Feels good to see the homepage again. So why not start up with a new weekly article, Shadowfortes 100 Best Games of All Time. So I will post 5 a week. Here we go!

100 – Sonic The Hedgehog (Genesis, Game Cube)

So, I was never a big Sega fan when I was a kid, because Nintendo ruled my house. I think the first time I played a Genesis was after I got my PS1, so I was a bit behind. One game though that will always stick out will be Sonic. It had something that Mario would never have: Speed. It was fast and had amazing colors and graphics for it's time. And IMO, Genesis had the best controller of that time, so that helped.

99 – Phozon (Arcade, PS1)

So many things I could say about this game. The only thing the strikes me as odd though is that everyone I have asked about this game has never played it or only played it on PS1. I can also say that this is one heck of a hard game to play. But the awesome tactful game play and replay value make me keep coming back for more.

98 – Burger Time (Arcade, NES, Game Boy)

Burger Time spawned a whole new type of game play for us that played it on the NES. Who thought making burgers by walking over them could be so much fun? With funny, yet hard to fight hot dogs, falling patty's and a little chef, how could you go wrong?

97 – Rock Band (360,PS2,PS3,Wii)

What's Rock Band you say? Take the GH games, whip out four friends and Rock Band, and feel like you are on your first world tour. Rock Band steps it up to the next level with one of the best party games of all time, yet it is also a great single player game. With the options to create your band members, play online, and download new tracks each week, this game is a must have.

96 – Dig Dug (Arcade, PS1)

Dig Dug is not a game I can just pick up and play. Matter of fact, I need to be in the mood for it. So why is it on my list? Because once you are in the mood to play it, you can't put it down. This game is so much fun, you just can't get enough. I mean, whats better the blowing air into a dragon until it blows up? Priceless.

Two weeks. Damn. It’s been a painful, painful two weeks, and the culmination of a painful month of ups and downs after being kicked off our shared host. It’s okay though, we’re on a dedicated server now, and it better keep us up now. Needless to say the downtime was a harsh time for many. RF Generation was down! Oh my God! What was one to do? Where was one to get their fix? What is this… world outside of RF Generation?

Posted under Site News, April Fools

You know what happens when your April Fools joke is horribly cut short by your old web host? The answer is, that we at RF Generation get rather irked. You see, we at RF Generation see April Fools as a high holy day. We really, really enjoy April Fools, and well, our old host suspending our site made us a bunch of sad pandas.

Thankfully, our April Fools joke was geriatric in nature. One of the aspects of old age lends itself nicely to our predicament. Old people, unfortunately for them, tend to lose track of things, including the date. So, surprise! Happy May Fools!

We’d like to thank everyone who was involved in our little joke, especially our resident graphic artist den68. He kicks ass. We thought about waiting until next year to show off Geriatric Generation, but doing this joke on May 1 probably led to a WTF moment for lots of people, which is exactly what we wanted to do, because we at RF Generation like to have our fun.

Of course, Geriatric Generation is the latest in a long line of April Fools Jokes, and I can almost guarantee that come next April First, there will be a whole new experience to be had. Between then and now, there might be other new things. We don’t know. Perhaps. Perhaps not. I hear that if you give us a shrubbery we might be more inclined to add stuff. Strike that. Two shrubberies.

From all of us at RF Generation, keep it glued to channel three!

Posted under Site News, Geriatric Generation

After months of consideration and planning, RF Generation has decided to change its theme to something more contemporary. One can look out in the realm of gamers and collectors and see that these hobbies are drawing an older crowd than in years past. Just look at the recent success of the Wii. I don't know what my grandparents would do if they could not get their Wii Sports Bowling. It's just like the real thing, except with a greatly diminished chance of injury. Thank Nintendo and other developers for given the older generations something new and exciting to do. Certainly, they are visionaries.

In the spirit of the ever increasing number of older gamers, RF Generation will now be known as Geriatric Generation. We feel that this new direction will not only appeal to a new populous, but also increase our financial solvency in the long term, thanks to sponsorships by amazing products like Viagra, Medic Alert, and Depend, amongst many more. Certainly, we ask that you check out and use their amazing products. I know I certainly will when the need arises.

What does this change to Geriatric Generation mean to you, our readers and members? Well, in the short term, you'll still have access to our databases and your collection tools, and the forums will still exist. As time progresses though these tools will be tweaked to be better in tuned with our new core audience, as well as several new tools shall be added to offer our new core audience reason to stick around. Personally, I am really proud of the collaboration we are soon to roll out in conjunction with AARP. Soon you'll be able to pick out which games the AARP recommends that you, the older gamer, should play. That's just one of many new things to roll out in the coming week, and certainly, we're excited.

We certainly hope that you understand our decision to change format, and we hope this development will not cause us to lose you as a member or reader. Be sure to keep checking out Geriatric Generation, and by all means, don't forget to check the Weather Channel on your Wii.

Posted under Site News, Checklists

Believe it or not, but we do listen to you guys. In fact, we even have ears that listen on other websites. You could say we're omnipotent... nah. That's not us. We're just a bunch of gamers, collectors, and average Joes running a website. But yeah, that's not the point. What is the point is that we've updated the collection checklist script after hearing some complaints about it. In the past, the script grouped variants and that was the only option. Now, the default option is that we show every game on a console, including variants. While this move will make a row for Greatest Hits, etc, it will also be extremely beneficial for those games that had multiple primary releases (read: Pokemon, etc.) We feel that it is better for you to filter out on the checklist which games you wish not to collect, rather than us. That said, if you wish to still group by variant, you can still do that as well, but such an action is not  the default.

As with any new release on RF Generation, there may be bugs. As the PHP Programmer, as well as the Site Director, it is my job to quash these bugs. So yeah, let me know, somewhere, if you experience any bugs.

Enjoy!
