Previously, I had made an article talking about how Europe tends to get screwed when it comes to receiving games. The truth is, they really do. They didn't get Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger. Those poor, poor souls. Hopefully Chrono Trigger DS will make it there for them. And Earthbound? Wow, it's almost as though the RPG loving God has it out for our European friends. Well, it seems so terrible, right? Well, it turns out that Europe sometimes does not get the shaft. Sometimes, it's actually North America that gets screwed. Don't believe me? Well, let's take a look.

British Gaming Blog has a wonderful look at ten excellent games that our friends in PAL country got while Americans got left out to dry. It's an interesting list. As my brother would castrate as I didn't mention it, Terranigma was never released in North America. It's part of the Soul Blazer series, and according to my brother it's [expletive here] awesome. I have no reason to question my brother's statement, and I trust his, and the British Gaming Blog's judgement. I did love Illusion of Gaia, after all.

Don't like RPGs? Perhaps you'd like Doshin then. It was supposed to be a 64DD game, but ended up coming out for the GameCube in Japan and Europe. You played as Doshin the Giant, and he was in many ways a God. He could be evil or good, and essentially the game was a God Game. If you were evil to your subjects, Doshin would turn into a red monster of death. It was a very cool concept, and when it was determined that it would not come out in the US, it made me a sad panda. I really, really wanted this game.

Don't like either Terranigma or Doshin? How about Shenmue 2? It wasn't released stateside, you picky bastard. I bet you also prefer Pinot Noir, as well. What? You don't like Shenmue either? Damn, you really do drink Pinot Noir. In that case, check the article out. There are seven other games he mentions that didn't make it to North America, and I bet our European Members can name even more.

Poor, poor us, and poor, poor them. We all have missed out on our fair share of games. Playing the comparison of shafts, I'd say that ultimately Europe gets screwed with a greater frequency and magnitude. Come on, Chrono Trigger! Poor, poor souls. Perhaps you think differently? Which reason has really missed out on games? Perhaps they both have? Or, perhaps you're horribly jaded and you think that those games all are terrible and neither region has missed out? I don't know, but I bet you'll let us know.

Edit: Turns out that Shenmue II did come out stateside... for the Xbox. Not the Dreamcast, but it did in fact make it here, albeit not for its original system

There is actually a lot more the US misses than people realise. Having collected for the Saturn for example, some notable titles that we got that never made it over there are Wipeout 2097, Deep Fear and Discworld 2.

Go further back and there are a LOT of Master System games we got that never hit the states due to the completely different circumstances, in Japan & the US, Nintendo seemed to be ruling the world, outside of these countries however it was the complete reverse, the Master Systems were selling like hot cakes, and in Brazil would continue to do so well into the early 2000's.

The US did get Shenmue 2  it was on Xbox not Dreamcast.

Whoops, you're right, edited to reflect this truth.

Terranigma is pretty much tied with CT for my favorite SNES RPG.

Well, maybe not, but this is the repository for all of my published thoughts and rantings. It'll make my day if you find at least 10% of it amusing and enjoyable to read.

Sorry for the other 90%.
