- The game is based on the character created for Hanna-Barbera Productions by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears in 1969. Scooby-Doo first appeared in the series 'Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!', and appeared in various other series throughout the years.
- The game was originally going to be a Dragon's Lair type game but due to memory restrictions, the game was never started. Adverts for the game appeared in gaming magazines so Gargoyle Games were given a short time limit to produce a game for release.
