- The game is based on the fictional cartoon character created by Elzie Crisler Segar (1894 – 1938) who first appeared as a comic strip in the New York Journal in 1919. Popeye has appeared in comic books, Radio and TV shows, and a live-action musical movie. The movie was first released in 1980 and was directed by Robert Altman (1925 – 2006) with Robin Williams (1951 – 2014) playing the lead role.
- Although the game shares the same name with the game published by Parker Brothers, they are both different games.
