Game Trivia:
  • Released on July 26, 1991.
  • This game is a loose adaptation of the 1989 arcade game and adds new gameplay mechanics such as a stage select and being able to purchase new planes. The original arcade game was completely linear and each character had a unique plane that could not be changed. However, the arcade game is 2-player simultaneous whereas this port is single player.
  • Both the arcade game and this port are based on the manga series of the same name by Kaoru Shintani, first published in 1979. The series later spawned a 1985 OVA, a 2004 anime and a series of model kits.
