Review:

The NEOGEO X Mega Pack Vol 1 contains all 15 games from the NEOGEO X Classics Volumes 1 thru 5. It requires a firmware upgrade to play. The firmware is contained on the card and at the time of writing this can only be obtained by buying the NEOGEO X Mega Pack Volume 1 or one of the 5 NEOGEO X Classics Volumes. This is disappointing. A consumer should have the option to upgrade to it without a purchase. The case is very nice. It contains a full color manual with info on each of the 15 games on the Mega Pack and stickers. It has a rocket cable which is used to charge the handheld without the dock and upgrade the firmware as well as a spot to store the handheld. The firmware adds game saving to all games released except Ninja Masters. When you use all your credits the game asks you to format a space for saving. Then when you start again you start off at the stage you last died. The sound is improved and is clearer than before. However the video still has tearing which is noticeable on a television when hooked up with HDMI or composite. The video quality on the TV out is improved a bit with HDMI but not much if at all with composite. This is the biggest disappointment. I was hoping that the firmware upgrade would fix the video out problems I had with the handheld. As of now the hand held is best used as a handheld and not hooked up to the TV. Hopefully Tommo will continue to fix the video problems and provide a free play option as well. The pack is currently on sale for $80 and can be found on Amazon.com. You can buy individual volumes of 3 games (NEOGEO X Classics Volumes 1-5) for $25.
