Happy New Year and welcome the January 2017 edition of RF Generation's Site News! In this issue, we present February's community playthrough title, announce the results of our December racing competition, check in on the goodies received during December's Secret Santa, announce a new site member promotion, set a reminder for our upcoming site Donation Drive, and thank those members who sent in submissions to our site and registered approvals during the month of December. Thanks for tuning in to this edition of the Site News! PLEASE be sure to read this month's edition, since there is some cool and informative content, as well as an important upcoming event announcement.
REMEMBER: If you have any news about upcoming events or topics that you think the site needs to hear about, please PM singlebanana and put "RFG Site News" in the subject line. Who knows, maybe your news will make our front page! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's almost time for this year's site donation drive to support a good cause and give back to RF Generation. RF Generation is a free, no advertising or pop-ups, non-profit site in which all database contributions come from member submissions. Our unpaid staff works hard to update and improve database content, keep front page articles fresh and informative, and work tirelessly on podcasts for your listening pleasure. However, the costs associated with running this site are not free (...or cheap) and we need YOUR help to keep our servers running into 2018. All donations will go directly to our server account and our goal is to raise at least $1500 by February 28th, which combined with donations from the previous year, will keep us going through the year. I will provide updates on the front page throughout February to help monitor how close we are to obtaining our goal and thank all donors by name for their contributions. Starting February 1st, we ask that you donate any amount you can, if you are able. If you can only donate a few dollars, that amount goes a long way in helping us reach our goal.
For the past two years, our staff has donated some fabulous raffle prizes for our fund drive and I am in the process of trying to get some lots together to make this happen. If you are a member and are interested in donating to this year's raffle, please send a PM to singlebanana. If we can put a few lots together, we will have another raffle this year and draw names at the completion of the fund drive. I will be sure to post an update to the front page regarding whether the raffle will take place and the rules as we get closer to February. Thank you!
Floyd is back to host another "solve your own murder" game (a la Shadow of Destiny, but this time with a more film noir feel. Net month our site playthrough will be Murdered: Soul Suspect on PS3, XBox 360, PC, and all next generation consoles. In Murdered: Soul Suspect, you play as police detective Ronan O'Connor and work to uncover the identity of your assailant so you can rest in peace. Despite a poor critical response, Murdered has become somewhat of a cult classic with fans praising it for presenting an interesting story and unique concept. Physical copies of this game can be acquired for less than $10, so please join us next month to solve the mystery of your much too early demise!
We hope that you are as excited about this pick as we are! Please join us by signing up on our discussion thread located HERE.
The Playcast team would like to thank all who participated in December's Racing Competition. To call it a nail bitter would be an understatement! It was so much fun watching the competitors duke it out and two of them (Wempster and douglie007) fought for the top spot the entire month. Also, special recognition to InvadErGII who finished a close third, and to neomagicwarrior who put up great scores for the first two games, but did not have a copy of the final game we played... However, in the end, it was Wempster who took home the covented checkered flag, this year's sweet racing trophy, and site bragging rights. Congratulations Wempster and a BIG thank you to all who participated!
The RF Generation writing staff and I are pleased to welcome long-time member, Disposed Hero to the writing staff. Over the past few months, you have probably noticed and enjoyed some of his blog articles that have been promoted to the front page. With some writers recently dialing back their workload in 2017, we have invited Disposed Hero to fill a monthly slot. Congratulations Disposed Hero, we are looking forward to reading other great pieces from you!
Our annual site Secret Santa was a huge success this holiday season. If you haven't done so already, be sure to check out all of the unboxing videos below and scroll through the thread to see what other goodies our members got HERE.
Even among the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we had some members who submitted incredible updates to our database this December. Last month, we had a total of 4,888 submissions! Of these entries, 4,806 were games and 82 were hardware items. Of this total, 2,264 were new images. A big thanks to all who submitted items to our database and to those who reviewed them all for the month of December! We appreciate your efforts and hope you continue to help make RF Generation a great source for collectors.
