Members and guests, welcome to our site's new, monthly front page feature that houses all of the relevant events and announcements on RF Generation.  For some time now, the front page has included posts such as the monthly Thank Yous, the playthrough announcements, updates on video game-related conventions, contest and fundraiser announcements, and other relevant site event information. In order to bring you more game reviews and gaming articles, we've decided to combine these informational posts into a single post so that our readers can find it all in one place.  So here it is, our inaugural news post. Enjoy, and be sure to come back for more updates each month!

WELCOME ABOARD!

First of all, I want to thank all of you who responded to April's "Call For Writers" and sent in applications for a spot on our writing staff.  The decision was tough and while we were only looking to bring on one or two new writers, we decided to bring three on board.  Please join me in welcoming the newest members to our writing staff, Addicted, NeoMagicWarrior, and zophar53.  We are looking forward to some great articles from you guys and hope that all of our members and guests will enjoy some new content from varying perspectives. So please join me in welcoming these new writers. Congratulations!

Crazy gun fights, memorable characters, and epic adventures are just a few of the things that await those who join in on the fun!  This is the first game in the now four part series, which saw its latest installment released on the PS4 just a month ago. WHAT'S NEW WITH RWX?

RetroWorld Expo 16 is beginning to take form.  RWX is back with over 120 tables on the main floor filled with artists, video game vendors, retro game book publishers, Indie/Homebrew developers, comic and toy vendors, and more.  We are expanding the console/freeplay/tournament area and adding pinball machines to the Arcade.

Returning guests from last year include The Gaming Historian, The Game Chasers, Pixel Dan, Eric Lappe, and Banjo Guy Ollie.  We are excited to announce some new additions to the guest list: Pat the NES Punk, Gamester 81, and Daniel Pesina.  Pesina is best known as the actor who portrayed Johnny Cage and the Ninjas in the original Mortal Kombat games.  So far our musical guests include You Bred Raptors?, Epic Game Music, and The World is Square.  We will be announcing more guests and musical acts in the coming months.  For updates and announcements, follow RetroWorld Expo on Facebook and check us out at retroworldexpo.com

MAY 2016 THANK YOU AND PYWS CONTEST WINNER!!

We had an AMAZING month of submissions in May and toppled all previous submission records with a grand total of 11,038! These submissions included 9,029 games and 2,009 hardware items added to our database. An astounding number of these submissions, 7,842 to be exact, were images. A huge thank you to everyone who participated in our Pain Yourself With Submissions Contest through April, May, and June, and at this time, I'd like to announce the winners.....yes, you heard me, WINNERS.

Press play before scrolling down further por favor

This years winner of the Pain Yourself With Submissions Contest is...Envelope Please!...RF Generation's own lovable, squishy, and always serious site member, the Great ZAGNORCH. Congratulations sir!  You are the winner of a $60 video game shopping spree and an RF Generation ringer t-shirt!  We applaud your outstanding efforts this year and appreciate your many contributions to our site over the years.

But wait, there's more......  Though the Pain Yourself With Submissions contest typically only has one winner, the Site Directors felt that we would be amiss by not recognizing another member who put forth an incredible, above and beyond effort into this year's contest.  And by all accounts, if this member was not a part of our staff and had to have his points halved, he would have won the contest. So, in appreciation for his valiant efforts at this disadvantage, we would like to also recognize Flee and give him a $30 video game shopping spree and a RF Generation ringer tee.

Congratulations to both winners and a HUGE THANKS to everyone who participated in the contest over the past few months and also to those who submitted this May.  For those of you interested in how you finished in the contest this year, you can look over the stats HERE (staff members remember to cut your score in half). Now, on with this months top contributors!

Our top submitters (those with a minimum of 50) for May were:

Congrats to Zagnorch for winning. Well done to everyone for taking part, good effort all round.

What a month.  A little unnerving to have CATS announcing the news from now on, but I guess it is better than Xacalite.  Goodness knows we don't need any more talking heads around here ;P

First, congratulations to all three new writers.  I think we're all pretty excited 'round these parts to experience the new content that you will bring to the site.

Two winners?!?  I doff my hat to you both, good sirs!  Well deserved, I think.  And the submitters; y'all rock!

Congrats to Flee as well.

Wow, I'm honored. Thanks my dudes.

Umm, I thought Illusion of Gaia was the June playthrough?

It is?

Sorry Flee, we couldn't let your effort go unnoticed. This is actually the first year in which a Staff member has "won", and you did it on submissions - reviews weren't even factored in. Based on that, I felt you have some reward for your effort.

Next year, we WILL be rebalancing our scoring system to change up where the emphasis on points is, so be prepared Zagnorch!

We will follow up with you guys and determine how you'd like your prizes to be delivered. Thanks to everyone that participated in the contest.

@MaterialHandlerMike: Yeah Mike, we are playing Illusion of Gaia right now. Why you no join?

Hey now...

@FatherJack: I hope the snapping of your top-submitter-of-the-month streak doesn't have you hitting the bottle too hard. You get right back in the game and regain your lofty albeit less-than-sober stature, mister!

@tactical_nuke: Considering you would've won by far if your points weren't halved, it would've been a travesty if you didn't get a little something for your efforts. While I was running on fumes the final week, you really ran away with the submissions... if you'll pardon the expression. Tongue

@Shadow Kisuragi: I figured the RFG-PTBs would get around to retooling the system, what with me going super-cheap & spammy with the extra-media submissions... well, even more so than the last couple years, anyway. I have a few ideas on some possible changes that I'll PM to you soon.

On a final note: say what I will about RF Gen's Amiibo and Lego Dimensions collectors, at least they submit the new figures & playsets to the database almost as quickly as they are released. All you Skylanders Superchargers and Disney InfINity 3.0 collectors out there: you're welcome.

...'Late

@Zagnorch: Talking of which, the Euro infinity only has the games and less figures than you could count on one hand in the database. I guess no one over this side of the pond cares about them :-p

Welcome aboard to our new writers, and congrats to Norch and Flee. Great work everyone.
