The 7th Guest was developed by Trilobyte and released for PC on April 1st 1993. It's an adventure game that focuses almost entirely on puzzles and uses live action video clips to tell the story as you progress. The game has an interesting development history and is notable for its place in pushing PC video game technology forward. This video takes a look at that history, the legacy of the game and how it holds up today.

Finally got back to watch this, thanks for reviewing it! I loved this game as a kid. Me and my dad spent hours playing it together. It seemed a lot creepier when I was in my early teens than it did when I went back to it a few years ago to play the re-releases.

I agree with you on the inconsistency in the puzzle difficulty. I too love puzzles, but some of the ones in this game were maddeningly obtuse or difficult, esp for a 13 year old. I was never able to solve the microscope puzzle. You mention in the video that it was your favorite but you don't say if you were ever able to solve it. Were you?

The can puzzle in the kitchen was another super hard one for me. My mom was a big help with this one. She's a big fan of words games too, so her and I worked together with a thesaurus to eventually figure it out. I learned a few new words with that one lol.

I loved the twist ending in this game. I have so many fond memories of this game, it's strange I never got around to playing its sequel. Maybe some day.
