Before you read this one, I highly suggest you check out the other posts in this series to see how much of a leap has happened.Hey Images work again!!!
Well its been -*checks notes*- over a year since I've given a room update. Should probably do this more frequently. Turns out this process just kinda stalled out after the last update, as other things (roof/hot water/heat/AC) all too precedence. Our board game also got the full makeover first, as it gets used much more frequently for group entertainment. Over winter break the time to get back to the game room finally came.
The room is loosely based on the controller above. We wanted a "retro but modern" aesthetic (I'd have gone more "Match Game '76" but i lost that debate). Turns out carpet is expensive, but rugs can be pretty cheap, so we grabbed an accent rug. Finding orange was HARD. Here it is getting stretched out from the packaging:
The stripes were almost impossible...they took 3 days cause I'm a perfectionist. The final product looks amazing though.
After the paint came all of the furniture. Most of the games were on mismatched shelves before - Fixed that with some Billy bookcases from IKEA. I kept the backs off so that you can see all the hard work of painting behind them. They are anchored to the wall, and so tightly packed in, the missing backs isn't a factor in stability.
I had one KALLAX for game consoles, but it wasn't enough. I added a 2nd one to make an "L". That corner has a weird shape, so the shelf makes the best use of that space that i can possibly think of.
Eventually, all the games got loaded on, along with all the knickknacks and decorations. Some of the systems have some "false" shelves added to make the most of the space by double stacking.
Also got a round to end labeling N64, the worst system to display ever.
Shuffling systems and storage around also finally gave me the chance to display the handheld collection appropriately. This is mostly my partner's stuff, as DS and pocket are their collections.
A set of blackout curtains pulls the whole look together at the end. Overall, I'm really happy with where it's at today. I have another flat screen to replace the dinosaur in there now (once I swap out a burnt out LED strip). Now, lets hope I can get back to playing some games instead of just making a space to do so!
That'll do for now - Till next time! ~Neo
