Last week wasn't great, but this week was just terrible. The worst part is that I have no idea why it was so bad. There were a ton of garage sales open this weekend and the weather could not have been better, but I found virtually nothing the entire weekend. Usually I can attribute a bad weekend with bad weather or a holiday or just not being able to go saling. But none of that was the case for the garage sales on Friday or Saturday.
This week was so bad that I had serious doubts of whether or not I wanted to do a blog entry. As you can see, I decided to go ahead and do one anyway, but with a slight twist.

Not much this weekend. I had a very long hard week at work on the rigs in the oil fields of Wyoming and southern Montana, so I slept in for the most part of today. Went to a couple sales after work on Friday however and found a box labeled "Super with games - $10" I looked inside and saw a SNES, 2 controllers, the RF and A/V hook-ups, the A/C adapter, and Mario is Missing. When I took the box over to the gentleman, before I could even ask, he said three bucks because most of the games in the box had been stolen during the day. I gave him the three dollars and left. I really wanted to ask how many games he had in the box originally and what they were, but I restrained myself because I might have cried if he had said something like Earthbound or Super Mario RPG or Chrono Trigger.

Got a new game to add to the Mega CD collection, meaning 30 individual games, 1 duplicate and 10 demos. The game is INXS, or its full title Make My Video: INXS, coming with spine card.

First thing I have to ask is, who the hell is INXS? What kind of music do they play? Can anyone give me some information on them?

Secondly, the guy I got it from must've been either lazy or away at the time of buying it because I've been waiting two weeks for this game and the guy never responded to my messages.

Barely skimming the surface on how cool Matt is, I thought I'd write a second review of how super awesome he is. As much as I hate most people, Matt doesn't seem to mind that I hate people, which is pretty awesome of him. Since really, I hate a lot of people and have very little tolerance of them. Not only is he just super rad, but he's actually very smart. The smartest guy I know. Smiley

Throughout the last 7-8 years, he's imparted a lot of wisdom and patience with me and my anger problems. I've had LOADS of anger explosions but he's always there to calm me down and now that I've been living with him for almost 4 years, he's now bought me treats to help me relax. Cheesy

Matt also has a super, duper awesome sense of humor and he's introduced me to a lot of comedies I might of passed. This is Spinal Tap, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and Arrested Development are just the few he's introduced me to. I've found that my personality and taste in things have changed (for the better) just being around him.

Matt's my super, duper BFF and I love him super lots. Cheesy Hi honey!

Your Blog Editor / Site Director sometimes misses cool articles that should be promoted. Sorry about that. Enjoy this article, over a month after it was originally published. It's a good one. -TJ

Viking: Battle for Asgard was released on March 25th, 2008 on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Though it received mostly favorable reviews, it was greeted with little fanfare by the gaming populace. It slipped under my radar as well, but after hearing positive word-of-mouth, I decided to give it a go. This review is specifically for the Xbox 360 version, though from what I gather the Playstation 3 version is nearly, if not completely identical.

You take up the hefty axe and sword of a Viking warrior named Skarin, a hulking brute renowned for his ability to smash skulls and cleave spines. The story kicks off with a fatally wounded Skarin falling on the battlefield, only to be spared and given new life by the Norse God Freya, daughter of Odin. In return, she demands Skarin fight for her against the legion of Hel, the Queen of the Underworld, daughter of Loki. Hel has been cast out of the immortal plane of Asgard for disobeying Odin, and has vowed revenge by way of releasing Fenrir. Unshackling the wolf god will initiate Ragnarok, resulting in the ultimate demise of all the Norse Gods. Skarin is charged with hacking and slashing his way through Hel's forces across Midgard, the mortal realm, before her plan comes to fruition.

Posted under Michael Jackson, Remembering Tribute

As most of us have known, Michael Jackson, known as the King of Pop, has passed away yesterday. So as a (sort of) fan of him, I thought I will put a mention in this blog so everyone in the RFGen community will give his respects. It's such a shame for me because I love all his songs and his dance moves, and I also think both the Moonwalker games and film were good. It was actually midnight here in the UK when I first heard the news, my sister showed me on her PC the live broadcast with thousands of people standing outside LA Hospital.

It's more of a shame for us British fans of Michael since he was planning a tour here and promised it to be his last (or at least hinted it because the caption was "This is it") and because of this tragedy that tour has now ended before it begun.

Ideas are interesting. For those who don't frequent the chat, I at one point made a YouTube video highlighting a portion of my collection that was kept in storage to show just how much was missing from my online collection. Fairly soon after that, logical123 posted a forum post of a video that he put on YouTube showcasing his collection and his setup. That's when I realized that I don't necessarily think that I can fully express myself with text like I can with my words.

Announcing the RF Generation podcast!

This will be for the members. While I was talking with logical123 one day, I was talking about how I got into collecting and other stories regarding finds, deals, or just interesting parts of collecting. I was able to elaborate much further on this than I feel that I could if I was typing it out. I also feel that the possibility of a co-host or an interview would allow the podcast to focus on the members of the site and their collections and experiences with the fluidity of conversation and truly allow their voice and excitement to be expressed to you.

As I mentioned in the forum, I will probably do a few episodes to see how it works for you and me. I also will be taking suggestions for show ideas so that this will become our show instead of just my experimental project. I hope to be hearing from you all soon.

Posted under Racing, Forza 3, GT5, Sim, October

So here it is, hopefully time again for the two biggest names in racing games to go head to head.
Forza 3 and Gran Tourismo 5
On the one hand Forza 3 has just sort of popped up, very little hype compared to Forza 2 (no show on speedtv etc) GT5 on the other hand has been known about for years but yet no offical release date has been announced, although its being said that the game could launch at anytime. Could it be that october might be the racing sim fans dream month?
Heres some numbers (subject to change of course)
Forza 3- 400+cars, 100+ tracks including the circuit de la sarth (aka LeMans)
GT5 - 500+ (hasnt been said for certain but its sure to be more than in GT4) same goes for tracks, Daytona and Indy are two biggies

Improvements on forzas side includes 10 times more polygons per car, improved physics (including visable tire flex as shown in the trailer) a true in car view and real to life damage.

GT5 gets a dashboard as well, damage for the first time in the series, and another first ferrari. As well as the return of rally (Now officially WRC) and NASCAR ( yep another series first)

Both games will have online play (another first for GT5)
Forza is adding more types of racing as well-drag,drift,oval.
Thats just covering the basics on the whats new bin on both games.

Forza 3 has been announced as 2 disc, while GT5 is at 1 right now, of course in the modern gaming world expect lots of little goodies to become available on your live/psn account shortly after launch.

So putting they're repective systems aside which will be the game to have?
After seeing the trailers I have to say I dont think graphics can be the deciding factor if they're not equal they're damn close to it.
Watch the trailers, check out the pics and give your thoughts.
Later

Posted under Collecting, Deals, Finds

My first venture into blogging my finds was inspired by my first halfway decent finds of the year. Living in the extremely small rural town of Powell, Wyoming; yard sales are few and usually full of antiques, but with persistance, I was able to make a few gaming related finds among the "Junk".

[Break]

Ok, so this first entry includes three weeks of finds, and the first weekend was in my hometown of Englewood, Colorado. My father told me he had seen the SNES controller and told me to go check it out, when I arrived, I noticed among a small collection of DVD's an Atari Jaguar, cables, and the originally included game Cybermorph for $10 and a single SNES Controller priced at $1. It was getting late and they looked about ready to pack it in for the night, so I offered $5 for all three items and he hastily accepted my offer and walked over around the side of the house into the driveway (which I hadn't noticed before) and handed me three GBA games and a GB game and told me to take them too. These included Darkwing Duck (GB), Drill Dozer (GBA), Gunstar Super Heroes (GBA), and XEVIOUS (GBA).

The Second week's haul wasn't anything spectacular, but one garage sale caught my eye when I saw the gentleman carrying a large box outside with a PS1 controller hanging off the edge of the box. The Sale wasn't scheduled to open for another ten minutes, but he flagged me over to look and I went straight to that box. I found two PS1 controllers, and a few PS1 and PS2 games; however, these games were for the most part missing their original boxes and manuals, so I offered five bucks for the box, he countered with ten, (My first counteroffer!), I said seven, he accepted, and I left. Inside the box were 8 games, and 5 of them were missing boxes and/or books. The three CIB games were A Bug's Life, GEX, and Rayman 2: The Great Escape for PS1. The other five were Tekken 4 and Blowout for the PS2, and Namco Museum vol.1, Crash Team Racing, and Frogger for the PS1. The controllers were both in pristine condition and I was very happy to have a working PS1 dualshock controller again. Smiley

Finally, this last weekend I found only two games, Caesar's Palace 2000 and Tall. Both for the PS1 and only a dollar for both games. Very happy with that find.

I'm hoping to put up pictures of my finds in the future as it will save me valuable time typing my finds and the descriptions. ha ha Also, hoping to learn how to add polls soon.

This week wasn't the greatest for me, in fact it was one of the slowest I've had all season. This was mostly due to not being able to go saling at all on Friday and there only being a few sales on Saturday. I didn't get a single system this weekend, which is kind of nice because I really don't need more extra systems laying around, I did manage to find some new games to add to my collection though.

The Burnout series of games is one in which the normal rules of driving don't really apply. Driving 200mph into oncoming traffic? Go ahead! Hit a car at those speeds? Well, you destroy your car, but we, the game, put you right back where you were, in a 100% repaired car, ready to cause chaos and havoc. This hilarious, un-realistic type of driving genre is one that you can play to vent your anger, because in certain challenges, you are required to crash into others!

Burnout Revenge is no exception to this rule; it speaks of this type of gameplay in the title! Being released on September 13, 2005 for the PS2 and Xbox, and later on the Xbox 360, Burnout Revenge keeps with the spaztastic gameplay of the original games (Burnout 1, 2, and 3), while adding all new modes and abilities to increase playability.

The main new feature in the game is called 'traffic checking'. In previous games, if you tapped another car, you would have to deal with the crash cam, and then start off again where you hit (or were hit) at a standstill. In Burnout Revenge, you have the ability to ram cars out of your way (from the rear) without going into crash-mode. This 'traffic checking' also adds to your boost meter, making the game even more of a crash party. This ability, in turn, makes the game much more enjoyable because of the elimination of constant 'crash-mode' slowdowns, which can many times cost you the race, level, etc.

Along with 'traffic checking' comes the ability to 'take-down' opponents during races. This basically means either ramming them, or making the crash, also known as good old mindless fun. In addition to this, you can be taken down as well. If you then retake-down the opponent that took you down, you get bonus points towards your boost as well as your level ranking. This revenge aspect of the game is one of its best, along with traffic checking.

All of the old modes return, with the crash mode being a personal favorite. You are given a scenario, and must cause the most damage as possible in one try. It may sound easy, but some of the later challenges are just that, challenges. These require careful planning as to what approach you will take, which car you will hit first, and so forth. After you hit a car, then you go into 'aftertouch mode', where you can move around your flying car, and when your explosion meter fills up, blow up your car, causing even more damage.

All of these new abilities, coupled with an already great game series, has lead for Burnout Revenge to earn quite high ratings, in the 80 to 95 percentile. What, you may ask, is detracting from the game? Well, for me, there is only one major problem: glitches. The game tends to run smoothly, but at times, can be incredibly buggy. My best example is when I was in first place in a normal race, and misjudged a sharp left turn. I crashed, or was supposed to crash, into a wall, yet I didn't. I somehow glitched through the wall, and ended up outside the game area, in a black abyss. If I didn't glitch, I would have won the race anyway, but I did, and ended up having to restart. Much anger ensued.

This type of glitching happens every so often in the game, which, while not effecting gameplay dramatically, it does detract from the overall experience. Thus, Burnout Revenge garners a well earned 95%. If you find this game for the $10-$15 price range, definitely pick it up, you will most certainly enjoy it. Until next time, happy gaming!

Posted under Site News, Submissions, Thanks, Contest, Results

It's been a while since I last thanked you guys for your submissions, and trust me, we are greatly thankful. Without your submissions, our site wouldn't grow, and that would just lead to a greater obscurity than we already have. We don't want that. Did you know that in May we had 7800 submissions? Damn. That's a lot. Even wilder is the fact that we had over 5300 images added in that month. Pretty wild, if you ask me. As a comparison, in April we had 3106 submissions, which, while respectable, is greatly trumped by May's submissions.

What does that mean? Well, it means that some of you play to win a contest. And one of you did. Who is that winner? Well, we've tabulated the scores, and even with a halved score, Ga5ket is the winner! He kicked ass and took names with submissions over the duration of the contest. In May alone he had 3212 submissions, of which almost all were image submissions. Truly, he played to win. Ga5ket, do yourself a favor and PM St0rmTK421 with your shirt size, what you want (not to exceed $60) and details about getting your spoils to you.

Of course, some of you also played hard, and I'd like to give kudos to those who gave a valiant effort. y2ritchie, VACRMH, and Lios (even with the murderous -74 karma), you all did well. Of course, the last person in that list would have done a lot better had his karma not been so low, but yeah, don't worry, maybe next year.

There were countless other individuals that made submissions, and we are greatly appreciative for the contest. From all of us at RF Generation, thanks!

Once again, I had spectacular luck this weekend. Almost a 100 more games were added to my collection after the hunting was done for the weekend, and I got a system I've wanted ever since I first heard about it, but I never thought I would find one for a good price.

Also, I've made the images clickable, so you can click on them and view them in their full size so you can actually read some of the game titles now.
