watched today....

The Killing Of A Chinese Bookie:  John Cassavetes:  Five Films:  The Criterion Collection (108 Minute 1978 Re-Edited Version) - (1978) - B-

Reason for score -- same as above..., just a shorter, different version of the movie...

Opening Night:  John Cassavetes:  Five Films:  The Criterion Collection - (1977) - C-

Reason for score -- another average movie....

A Constant Forge: The Life And Art Of John Cassavetes:  John Cassavetes:  Five Films:  The Criterion Collection - (2000) - D-

Reason for score -- a waste of time, but at least this set is finally done....at least i got it super cheap...i know loads of people love this Criterion set, but I'm not a fan....I can see why it is part of the collection, but, it's just not amazing....

Wow, I didn't expect such a lengthy respond; thanks for the research you've done, it's appreciated. Smiley

It was just a (wrong) impression I had then...I just found that lately (like the last 2-3 weeks) you've been giving C's or D's to almost all your criterions.

But thanks again, a very nice list I must say. nod Smiley

All of what I have been watching recently has been that damn Cassavettes box set....terrible set....I just don't see the appeal.

And, for some of the movies I have rated poorly, most diehard collectors would also rate low, such as Border Radio.  I have never seen anyone say that it is a good movie (found that out after I got it....at least it was cheap.)

Here are my ratings on the Eclipse side of the house (haven't watched two of my sets yet.)

Early Bergman:  Eclipse Series 1:  The Criterion Collection   -   A
Lubitsch Musicals:  Eclipse Series 8:  The Criterion Collection   -   A
Larisa Shepitko:  Eclipse Series 11:  The Criterion Collection   -   A
The Documentaries Of Louis Malle:  Eclipse Series 2:  The Criterion Collection   -   A+
Raymond Bernard:  Eclipse Series 4:  The Criterion Collection   -   A++
The First Films Of Samuel Fuller:  Eclipse Series 5:  The Criterion Collection   -   A++
Silent Ozu:  Eclipse Series 10:  The Criterion Collection   -   B-
Late Ozu:  Eclipse Series 3:  The Criterion Collection   -   B+
Postwar Kurosawa:  Eclipse Series 7:  The Criterion Collection   -   B+
Carlos Saura's Flamenco Trilogy:  Eclipse Series 6:  The Criterion Collection   -   D

For Eclipse, I didn't rate the indivdiual films, but you get the idea.

I have a bunch more Criterions and Eclipse titles I haven't seen, as well as a number on order too.

Yea, most likely.  I just wanted to get it outta my queue list.  I have a few Criterions I haven't seen yet on my list, so hopefully I don't get any more stinkers.

watched tonight....all were really short, under 1 h 15 min each....

Shadows In Paradise:  Aki Kaurismäki's Proletariat Trilogy:  Eclipse Series 12:  The Criterion Collection - (1986) - A

Ariel:  Aki Kaurismäki's Proletariat Trilogy:  Eclipse Series 12:  The Criterion Collection - (1988) - A

The Match Factory Girl:  Aki Kaurismäki's Proletariat Trilogy:  Eclipse Series 12:  The Criterion Collection - (1990) - A

Reason for score -- all flowed well together, really great trilogy....all on the short side, but it worked for the films....also, the soundtracks were fantastic...

Just got back from Burn After Reading. Another great piece from the Coen bros., a bit slow but ultimately rising to a hilarious crescendo. It was somewhat reminiscent of a play by Shakespeare...
