The first thing that comes to mind is are their any non-Japanese games that are playable on this system and might their be a list somewhere?  Also, any idea on backward compatibility on these?  Can they play regular Japanese Xbox games or even U.S. games?  I am getting a real good deal on this system plus about 12 games and just wanted to see if there was any other info out about its compatibility.  Thanks in advance!

Some games on the 360 are region free and some are not.

Play-Asia has a pretty good list of what game can play on what system:

I believe that the only "old" Xbox games that you can play are Japanese, but I'm not sure where to find a list of which ones you can use.

Or you COULD get a PS3 and play any game from any region as the games are region free. Wink

But yeah, what JWKobayshi said is right. Some 360 games are region free. It's all up to the developers.

I do have a PS3 and a U.S. 360.  this was just a deal that came along that was hard to refuse and I thought it would be another cool system to add to the collection.  I guess only time will tell but for now thank you guys for the helpful suggestions.

I really got this system mostly because it was a good deal and partly because it is just something odd to have and if nothing else makes a cool DVD player for the bedroom...next to my gamecube. I knew going into the deal that I was probable SOL if anything happened but I honestly got the system in trade for a lot of doubles of games and a couple of systems that I already have. Here is a list of the games/peripherals that I got in the deal:
Japanese Xbox 360
20 gb HD
1 Wireless Microsoft controller
12 Games all ntsc/j:
Spectral Force 3: Innocent Rage
Blue Dragon (3 discs?)
Trusty Bell (aka Eternal Sonata)
Vampire Rain
Senko no Ronde X
Need for Speed Carbon
Bullet Witch
Sengoku Musou 2 (Samurai Warrioris 2)
LoveFootball (Soccer Game)
Enchanted Arms
The Idol Master
Project Sylpheed

The versions of Tomb Raider Anniversary and Gears of War that I have work on this system perfectly so far. I just need to learn to read Japanese now....
