Since ill be 30 I'm a few weeks I'm planning a nice little vacation. Problem is I don't know where.  I have 500 ( up to 800) to play with including hotel and car rental. I'm from northern nj so I figure anything up to 6 or 8 hrs away will work. A thurs-Monday type thing. Any ideas?  ( NYC sucks in my view so I wouldn't want to go there, don't like going there at work in an ambulance. ). Any good places with thrift shops or flea markets a big plus also a nice place to go with the gf be a plus too. So far I'm thinking(maybe in my range)

Pa
Upstate ny
Connecticut
Vermont
Massachusetts
Delaware
Maryland
DC
And maybe
West Virginia
Virginia

Also have a nutball thing to drive to Tennessee but at 14 hrs and alot of gas might not be realistic.

I'd check out DC out of that list.

If you are going to come to the north east do it during the fall with everyone else. If you are an outdoorsy type you can get some awesome mountain scenery but even for that you might want to head south into Virginia and check out the Blue Mountains.

As for thrifts Western MA is a dead zone. The people in Conn are always crying about how dry their area is for finds and then end up finding some of the best shit i have seen.

Being and living in nj it's nice in the fall. But for my bday I need an escape. Dc I never thought for thrift flea market type things.  Worth a strong consider.

Come on over to my place.  I'll find a sitter for the kids and we'll just stay up and play video games all night.  You know, like our middle-school aged selves always assumed we would do at this age.

Also, not kidding; you're totally invited.   Smiley

As for my DC suggestion I did not factor thrifts into my decision. I can only confirm that Western MA is dead.

Vermont is beautiful countryside.  I'm not sure what to do there though.  Camping?

Most of my pickups, including the latest (CIB Atari XE w/ light gun and about 12 games) is the Exchange, a store catering to all media from records to blu-rays.  Never know what'll show up.  There's also a Buy Backs (not recommended but interesting stuff sometimes comes through) and two Play N Trades.  Oh, and lots and lots of yard sales, depending on the time of year.

If we get adventurous and road trip another hour and a half we have the EXCELLENT Video Game Connection (http://www.videogameconnection.com/) with some tough-to-find Atari stuff.

There's this thing called the internet that lets you see all sorts of neat stuff without ever having to leave your house.

No need to venture outside and blow money on gas.

And you don't have to deal with dirtbags, weirdos and other annoyances that make life such a pain in the ass.

There's no better vacation than that.

You're welcome.
