This thread is to talk about different podcasts. Maybe you can find a new one to listen to here. Maybe you can share one you like to listen to. Give us your reviews and thoughts.

Lets talk about podcasts!

To kick things off......I listen to tons of them at work. Some of these I listen to all the time, some occasionally, others I know of but don't listen to anymore.

Gaming podcasts:

Retro Gaming Roundup This one is great. It comes out monthly and is 6-8 hours long. VERY knowledgeble guys, great interviews. Either start with episode #1 or the latest one. They are full of timeless information, so starting at the beginning is really the way to go if you end up liking it. This is the last podcast I would give up. Can't recommend it enough.
http://retrogamingroundup.libsyn.com/rss

Wired's Game Life This is a couple of guys from Wired magazine. They are lifelong gamers with very good inside information (they are editors at Wired after all.)  This one is more timely. Generally the latest one is the one to listen to. Full of professional coverage of current game stuff but from two guys seeped in retro game knowledge. They do talk about old stuff too, so if you like it you can check out the older ones, they did change things up awhile back, used to talk more about old stuff. It varies in length, 40 minutes to 1hr 20mins usually. Weekly.
They have been having issues with the way the rss feed releases episodes lately. Go by the episode date, not the one at the top of the list.
http://downloads.wired.co...ipx=1352891034-1325551753

Retrobits Comes out very randomly. They guy keeps promising to make it more regular but we'll see if that ever happens  Roll Eyes  Probably the most family friendly show out there. Mostly covering things like the Commodore 64, Vic 20.....computer stuff of that era. Shorter than most, less than an hour usually.
http://retrobits.libsyn.com/rss

Arcade Repair Tips Also comes out randomly. Very specifically about working on arcade machines. Want to know how to replace a power supply? What is causing "ghosting?" What goes on at an arcade auction? Why the monitor is only displaying a horizontal line? This is the show for you. Timeless, listen to any or all of them, random in length 2 hours? 3 hours? If you have arcade machines, or want to own some, listen to this. Not every entry in the rss feed is a mp3.
http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/feed/

Final Score Mostly talks about topical/current games. The hosts are, by my guess, in their 40's so they've played old games too. Not super in-depth. Listen to one episode and you'll know if you like it.

The 1up.com podcasts These are no longer running. Kinda sad. They were good. Seemed to talk about Silent Hill and Resident Evil a bit too much.....Retronauts was timeless, Games, Dammit! slightly more timely. Doesn't hurt to listen to them, even if there are no more new episodes.

Major Nelson The official xbox podcast. Its entertaining enough. Mostly timely, current news, lots and lots of people listen to this one.
http://feeds.feedburner.com/mnitunes

All Gen Gamers Three of the four guys use this site, apparently. RFG was talked about on a recent episode. One of the four guys knows me well enough to say, "I've seen you before...." when we meet. This show is just fun random gaming talk. The guys are entertaining. Make sure to check this one out.

We have a couple podcasts that have called RFGeneration home and a few more RFG users who have their own shows. I'm not leaving them out, I'm just going to let others talk about them.

At the moment, it's late, I will come back with more shows.....lots more shows........

I have a podcast with MrUnoriginal.

We haven't done a new one in a while but it's just a matter of time until we get back into it.

Retro Gaming Roundup has people who use this site as well. Wink

Rooster Teeth Podcast From the creators of Red vs. Blue. They talk gaming as well as projects for Rooster Teeth and anything inbetween. Fairly entertaining, especially once you get to know the cast.

Smodcast is pretty good.  Kevin Smith sounds like a good conversation.

The Joe Rogan Experience.  Love this guy.  He's a lot more than just an MMA stand-up comedian.

The Adam Carolla Show.  Another great podcast of you like listening to a guy complain about traffic for 90 minutes a day.

Bill Burr's Monday Morning Podcast.  If you want to laugh so hard your stomach hurts, give it a listen.

Here are a few that haven't already been mentioned:

A Way with Words: Short weekly show about language and word roots. If you haven't already guessed, yeah, I'm a little nerdy.
http://www.waywordradio.org/

Famicom Dojo: These guys have a fun video series on YouTube, as well as a weekly show where they talk more about modern gaming. One of the hosts lives and teaches in Japan, so it gives some different perspectives at times.
http://famicomdojo.tv/

Well-Versed in the Classics: A group of guys that give a pretty thorough break-down of retro systems and games. They seem to have stopped producing shows some time back, but the back catalog is well worth listening to.
http://wellversedintheclassics.blogspot.com/

8-4 Play - 8-4 is a company that translates Japanese games to English, with recent examples such as the latest Fire Emblem and Lollipop Chainsaw. They spend their time talking about the gaming industry, with a stronger take on Japan.
http://8-4.jp/blog/?lang=en

Player One Podcast: Former EGM writers team up for a weekly show about gaming. Short show that has some fun and strong personalities.
http://www.playeronepodcast.com/

Retronauts - I'm sure most people will be familiar with this long running show. In depth discussions of classic gaming. The old shows are still available through 1up.com, and the new season has just begun.
http://www.retronauts.com/

Cheap Ass Gamer - CAGcast: CheapyD, Wombat, and Shipwreck all get together each week to discuss modern gaming and the industry in general. I really enjoy the personalities on this show, and certainly one of my favorites.

Retro Game Squad is pretty good.  They set a list to play then review the games, and can be brutal.  Check it out.

I also listen to Joe Rogan.

This thread is working out perfectly! I didn't realize Retronauts was back on the air. Listened to their first two shows today. It's nice to once again hear Bob and Jeremy's Neo-hipster take on things.

Some of you probably already know of the Twit shows (Twit, not Twitch) at http://twit.tv/
This is a group of shows which are shown live on video at the site then made available to view or download the audio version of. Leo, the head guy at Twit, used to be on Tech TV if you remember that network, as did several of the others working at Twit. This is a very high quality production, as much as most any news show on tv. There are about 27 shows currently being made, they all have some sort of tech bent to them. Although this is a professional news site, it is also entertaining, no stiff upper lips here. Although the shows are shot as video's, they do a good job relating to the audio listener. I've only seen a couple of shows but listened to hundreds of episodes. Here are a few of the the ones I listen to:

Tech News Today Comes out every weekday. Four or five people presenting the tech news for the day. They also give informed commentary. A good way to keep up on the tech world. I listen to it 4 or 5 times a week. About 45 minutes long.
http://twit.tv/show/tech-news-today

This Week in Computer Hardware Like the above Tech News Today but about PC (mostly) hardware. Lots of talk on graphics cards....Comes out weekly. About 40 minutes long.
http://twit.tv/show/this-week-in-computer-hardware

Home Theater Geeks Fairly in depth talk on audio and video equipment. I like this show quite a bit. They have had shows about line conditioners, professional monitor calibrating, room calibration, 4K tv, all that good stuff. It doesn't hurt to go check out older shows either, the info is still good.
http://twit.tv/show/home-theater-geeks/

Frame Rate A show about being a cord cutter? They talk about news as it relates to watching things online, not so much the actual things you would watch but the bigger news. I'll just copy this from their site,"The best ways to watch Internet TV and the best stuff to watch. Tom Merritt and Brian Brushwood scour everything from Hollywood to Hackers to help you get closer to cutting the cord." Weekly show, entertaining discussions, about an hourish long.
http://twit.tv/show/frame-rate

Also on Twit.tv
Know How - A show on doing random projects. I like it.
NSFW - If you like the show Shadow mentioned above, Rooster Teeth, you might like this show. Sort of a shock jock show done by geeky people. I don't actually listen to this one but I'm sure some of you guys would like it. Even though the name of the show is "NFSW" it's pretty close to what you could hear on broadcast radio. The "N" stands for "nominally" in this case.

You can find these and the rest of those 27 shows at http://twit.tv/shows

Lots of good stuff there.

I listen to a ton of podcasts per week.  Some of them were already mentioned (CAGcast, Retrobits, Retro Gaming Roundup, 8-4, Player One).  Now for my contributions:

Retronauts - I know this was already mentioned, but I wanted to bring attention to one thing: while it is likely going to be bi-weekly, so far it looks like "off" weeks will have Retronauts Pocket Edition.  The last one covered Prog Rock and its contributions to video game composers.  Could do with some more retro PC talk, but hey, at least they're back, right?

A Life Well Wasted - Best described as a gaming from with a National Public Radio slant.  Tends to have three or four "stories" to each episode.  Very entertaining and worth listening to and the shows creator, Robert Ashley (formerly of the 1up), does an excellent job of putting everything together.  The only problem is frequency:  Robert is a musician that has been hard at work creating, so updates are extremely rare.  All seven episodes are worth listening to.

Giant Bombcast - Weekly 2.5 to 3 hour podcast about gaming.  Some great minds here, and they pretty much come without fail every week, with several hilarious "Game of the Year" podcasts towards the end of the year.  Very little retro, unfortunately, but all the cast are gamers of old, so it does come up.

PC Gamer - Not the greatest podcast, but worth a listen if you like your current with occasional retro PC gaming highlights.  If you are a sensitive console gamer or apologist, you may become annoyed (at all the PC gaming talk).  Every 50 episodes there is a bizarre yet very funny gameshow-thing called "Cat Fantastic", which has to be heard to believed.  Generally comes out weekly and lasts an hour or two.

supholmes - Hosted by Destructoid's uber-psych and gaming journalist, Jonathan Holmes (and Sinistar), where he interviews indie-gaming developers and creators.  Very interesting if you like indie games, as Jonathan is generally quite pleasant and polite and tends to ask great questions.  Weekly to bi-weekly.

Podtoid - an extremely vulgar podcast that tends to be only partly about gaming and more about one of the hosts (Jim Sterling) sexually harassing one of the other hosts (Jonathan Holmes), as well as bizarre movie ideas starring Willem Defoe, Danny Devito, and lately Gordon Ramsey.  Not for the easily offended or anyone with children nearby.  While the cast make up some of the greatest thinkers in gaming journalism, there can be pretty gross (just look at the show titles)  Purely for entertainment.

19 Nocturne Boulevard - not a traditional podcast, per se, this is a weekly (sometimes more often) "radio drama" written and sometimes starring Julie Hoverson, the writing and acting is usually very well done and worth every moment.  Plus, there are literally dozens of back episodes to listen to with some series (The Deadeye Kid, Bingo the Birthday Clown, and the Lovecraft Five) so there is a lot of entertainment here.  Also Julie has been hosting some other great shows such as the Brown Monkey shows, which tend to be extremely funny.

Honorable Mentions
Crunk Games - There are only two episodes, but one is one the 25th Anniversary of Dragon Quest and the other is the 10th Anniversary of Phantasy Star.  Hosted by Ray Barnholt (formerly of 1up and now creator and publisher of Scroll magazine) and Alex Fraioli

Retro Domination  Just started it, so I don't think I can give an informed opinion.  Seems good so far.

Retro Asylum - Been listening to for a few weeks.  A British retro podcast, which means 8 and 16-bit micros, and I love me some 8 and 16-bit micros.

Retrogaming Radio - I really dislike the host for this show and can listen to him no more than a few times a year.  However, he has three shows dedicated to the c64 in the bucket recently (and as I stated above, I love me my micros) so I hit my yearly quota pretty quick.

I listen to Smodcast, Tell 'em Steve Dave and Jay and Silent Bob Get Old like others have already mentioned.  Here are a few that haven't been mentioned so far:

We're Alive - A "Zombie" Survival Story:  It's pretty much like an audio version of The Walking Dead, mixed with Resident Evil like special zombies.  It's on it's fifth and final season right now.

Radiodrome:  A movie themed podcast, mostly focusing on horror movies.  The hosts are Josh Hadley and Brad Jones, The Cinema Snob with a different third host depending on what timeframe the podcast is on.  These guys know their shit.  Also if you've never heard of The Cinema Snob, I highly recommend you go watch his show.  He reviews exploitation and porn movies, but as a stereotypical movie snob.  It's really funny and you've got about 5 years worth of stuff to catch up on.

Welcome to Nightvale:  This is one of the most popular podcasts on iTunes and for good reason.  It's the community radio from a small desert town where every single conspiracy theory is true.  It's like small town America in the Twilight Zone.  One of my favorite things ever.

Psuedopod:  More of an audio book show than a podcast.  The podcast has reading of short horror stories by both well known and obscure authors.  It's a really great show if you're into horror stories.

I also listen to some podcast called the "RF Something or other collector doo hickey".  I don't know where you'd find out about it though.
