I don't get it. The game missed X-play's top 10 games ever reviewed by them, which is understandable, but their reasoning is screwed up. They state melee has a weak single player, like all fighting games IMO, but go on to say the game doesn't have depth. That's a load of crock. The game appears as simplistic 2d fighter on surface value, but like all fighting games there are layers to it, as you can see by the Marth vs. Roy comparison I posted, not to mention techniques I'm sure X-play has never heard of such as wavedashing. Bleh.

Also, the lack of Metroid Prime on their top 10 games is completely outragous. I for one understand that not everyone likes it, but dear God, Up Your Arsenal which is the worst of the R&C trilogy managed to place.

Argh, I can't stand X-Play, they don't count anyway...... bring back Game Spot please....
X-Play's over the top soap-opera antics and all out stupidity completely kill it for me, watching it and having to put up with their lame jokes, horrible reviews, lame ass sketches, games being dubbed by the hosts and watching random items thrown over the screen while trying to see how the game looks for yourself......

To be honest I'd rather buy a PS3 than ever see another full episode of that ever again.

I grow weary of X-plays hosts and commentary, but every once in a while I can dig out a nugget of gameplay.  To be honest, I like Cheat! more because, although I have none of the games they ever show, you get longer gameplay clips with some of the unadvertised aspects of the game.  One example is launching your friends sky-high through a grenade trick, or how Crackdown's energy orb collection adds more hours to the game.

Deadlocked was the worst. UYA was damn good, and far better than Melee.

Yea you can get away with button mashing.

I started seeing the depth in it about a year before i joined the Gameclub at STCC.
But those kids took it to a whole new level.

Wave dashing, timing button presses and counters within a certain number of frames, infinite bomb jumping/homing grapplebeam with Samus, reflecting all projectiles with the shields. Proving and disproving a tier system (christ almighty i hate hearing about tiers to this day.)

Ah, this brings back fond memories of my arcade fighting days. Anyone remember the Electric Wind Godfist in Tekken? You had a 3 frame window the push the punch button or it didn't work. That was skill.

I played a guy in Melee one time who beat me in a stock match and only took 12% damage. He used Captain Falcon. I was pretty good at melee too. That guy was just sick. Calling SMB a button masher is just wrong.

But you can get away with it if you're playing scrubs.

New Character: Pokemon Trainer.

I'm not joking.

I threw up in my mouth a little when I saw Pokemon Trainer. Worst character idea EVER.

They should have just stuck with the Poke Ball item. They already have enough Pokemon stuff in the game anyway.

Perhaps it is a clue to the enormity of the game.

I've played SSBMelee and it seemed like a lot of over-hyperpaced button-mashing.

Granted, I didn't read the instruction book or anything so if I try it again it's entirely possible I may like it...but it's not high on my list of games to play at the moment.  Undecided

finally, someone agrees.  the first one was way better.  I first played the N64 one when I was 7, and saved up all summer when I was like 10 or 11 to get melee.  of course this game was controversial in my household.  im not going to get brawl until I play it.

I just looked at the site-ike's awesome, but pokemon trainer-disgusting.

I think theres A LOT that hasnt been released about this game yet.

Whoa, I can't believe I missed that post. I agree with you Phoenix that it was a lot of button mashing.
