I only buy magazines every now and then on an impulse. They're too expensive here. OPS2M and OXM are both £6 each. Nintendo Official Magazine is cheaper but it's a lot crappier by a long way. Retro Gamer is also £6, I think. And it doesn't even come with a cover disc any more.
OPS2M is my favourite magazine because they seem to admit the PS2 isn't the best current gen console. They just focus on the games and how fun they are. It's also got some humour in it.
Official Xbox Magazine is quite good. They focus on games as well, and they aren't overly arrogant.
Nintendo Official Magazine is a load of tosh written by the biggest Nintendo fanboys in Britain. If it isn't first party Nintendo, it's not worth even glancing at in a shop. The majority of their reviews are 5 or 6 out of 10. That could be because Nintendo games are crap, the reviewers are biased against anything non-Nintendo, or their idea of average is a 5. It can't be an average because their reviews always state that the games are awful. Nintendo consoles generally have fairly good games. So it must be that the reviewers don't know a good game when they play it. There was one Mega Drive game, I can't remember which, that was ported to the GBA. They had a few paragraphs saying how good it was, then they mentioned Sega and it all went downhill from there.
[/NOM rant]
Edge is a very good magazine. It covers all consoles and isn't biased towards anything. It's also something like £4. I often buy it if it has an interesting cover story.
