This may be more of a pain than it is worth, but has anyone considered adding the figures for Skylanders to the database? There are a large amount and the list will be even larger once the new Skylanders game comes out in October.

Thoughts?

This came up once before, we're not adding them to the DB. They're more of a toy with video game characteristics.
However, we would accept images of them as extra media for the Skylanders game(s).

i don't know much about skylanders but i think extra media would be good too...this is a software/hardware database, the skylanders figures are more like merchandise, or an extra in a special edition.

Skylanders figurines can be thought of in two ways.

1) They're merchandise. We don't have any ways to track items that are not considered software or hardware, so they would need to be Extra Media.

2) They're treated as Downloadable Content, in which they're treated as retail software.

I don't really consider the figurines to be software, but it's possible they'd fit #2 in a warped sense. Sad

I would say they should be treated as hardware and included in the DB.  Just like controllers are in the DB.

1.  There are different versions and some special collectable ones.
2.  You can't play the game without at least 1 character

However not every character is available by itself so I think the DB should have the packs and not just individual characters.  If a character was released individually then that "pack" would be listed.  If it came with other characters then the group pack would be listed.  It would be nice to be able to keep track of them; especially with new releases coming soon over the horizon.

They are toys and don't need to be in the database as their own pages. If you want to add images under extra media and then talk about the 3 packs and single figures under the game trivia section for Skylanders that would be fine.

I appreciate your opinion. Smiley  Since they don't have any relevance outside of the games I don't really consider them as toys.  But that is just MY opinion.  Since I don't have any control over what gets added to the database I'll just have to live with the decision of those who do.

They are DLC, they just happen to be physical media.  We do not currently keep track of DLC, so I vote that Extra Media is their best home for now.

Good point.  I would still consider those titles games because they have a disc.

*mutter* No clue what happened to my response to this, but essentially, if we were to add them they'd be as Hardware under Multiple Consoles, not Software.
