Here's an interesting twist to the whole "remember when" deal: was there something that was really super-mega-popular during your childhood that you just didn't care for, and/or didn't really understand why it was so popular? And in some cases, it would have been considered heretical of you to state your disdain for the super-popular thing out loud?
In my case, it was...
Pee-Wee Herman. THAT'S RIGHT! I SAID IT! WHATTAYA GONNA DO ABOUT IT, HUH?!
EAT ME!!!*AHEM*
I never understood his appeal, I just found him obnoxious and highly annoying, with a very off-putting demeanor. It came as no surprise to me when Paul Reubens, the man behind the insufferable dork, got busted for wrestling with his "little Pee-Wee" in a porn theater in the early 1990s.
Meanwhile, Ernest P. Worrell was the freaking man! Why did he hafta be the one to die of lung cancer while Pee-Wee lives on to get a successful revival tour?! There really is no justice in this world...
