Nintendo wins E3, without a doubt. Wii U looks good, two gamepads supported, having a Mario game near launch, ZombiU, and NintendoLand make it easy. Also another Mario on 3DS in a couple months? Full. Of. Win.

2 Gamepads was a nice surprise for sure!

Anyone else impatiently awaiting the 3DS Conference tonight? Nintendo's already shown Paper Mario:SS and Luigi's Mansion 2, so that leaves Animal Crossing and... hopefully something unexpected.

Because I don't want to have to buy 10 figures just to have all the characters in the next Smash Bros. game.

1"Wow people are going fucking crazy over Skylanders"
2"Lets do that!"
You know, it's funny but I was in the games aisle of a toy store about a week ago and there were these two kids (maybe 10-12 years old? hard to guess) going crazy over these figures. They were on a seperate stand right next to the Nintendo games. Not even in the Ben 10/Bakugan section (after all, it's a toy store) and I had never seen these in my life, nor heard anyone talk of them. They looked expensive as well. One of the kids was "I only miss these two to have a complete set" and I suddenly felt old. I couldn't even figure out what they were for until I looked it up just now.

...

I still think that "Wii U" is the dumbest name ever. I mean, Wii = we, U = you, I get it. What's next the next system going to be? "We, you, everyone!"? "Wii U F-Free-1". I don't understand what's cool about text speak.

Pikmin is awesome. How come it has taken them 8 years to start working on a new Pikmin game? Yet during the same time they have released atleast 3 Mario Party games. That said, I prefer how Nintendo oversees the longevity their core franchises by not oversaturating the market with a game every (other) year, like Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed.

The 3DS stuff was cool, and it was neat to get a new Mii from Nintendo. NSMB2 looks great.

I'm still excited for Paper Mario:SS but it seems it will be more of a side title like SPM than Paper Mario 3. Interesting that there was no mention of Animal Crossing, at least Fire Emblem was confirmed for here. NSMB2 looks interesting and hopefully it will be different enough to not feel like nintendo is just trying to cash in with a bunch of NSMB titles.

So cool, had no idea Tank! Tank! Tank! was heading console side. Had a blast with it in the arcade.

Not bothered with the name, didn't like Wii over Revolution, but adding a U to Wii doesn't make it any worse really. Heh heh, we can start pondering what the next Wii will be called if you want though. My bet is on Wii U Me. Naa... to be honest I'm sure it'll be Wii U TV since smart TVs will probably have replaced dedicated consoles by then (since we are talking six years from now it isn't out of the question).

I have to admit, the hardware certainly looks impressive.  I love the idea that Nintendo is really serious about embracing social networking and the Internet, and I can't wait to see how the examples seen in the video will be exploited by developers.  I personally cannot justify a "Day One" purchase, or even a "Day Thirty".  Part of that is the price of the unit in proportion to good games available at launch (this is a classical view, but some of it has to do with the way Nintendo handles prices of their games (since one purchases a Nintendo system for their games first).  I understand that the games continue to sell fairly well, but that doesn't change anything (how well can Super Mario 64 on DS really sell?).

I guess I tend to get a little depressed around the time new consoles are introduced.  This usually means there will be another jump in minimum specs for PC games, so sometime in the near future (likely spring or summer 2013) I'm going to have to figure out a way to justify a new videocard for my main gaming computer.  It'll only be $115-$135, but since my son and I are the only ones who game on the PC it makes the argument a little more difficult.
