In Episode 9, Duke recovers the memory of his comic book collection from his childhood and attempts to repair yet another time fragment. He discusses the themes, the artwork, and even the advertisements. There’s enough 80’s nostalgia in this episode to satisfy even the most die hard 80s fan!

Wow, what a coinkydink-- Just a few moments ago, I finished reading a few IDW crossover comics featuring the ultimate toy property of the 1980s, namely the TransFormers, duking it out with the original Star Trek crew and ROM the SpaceKnight--

-- Holy crap, you really are stuck in some sorta 1980s matrix; several of those comic book covers had parts that were windows to another dimension!  Like that Green Lantern comic that had almost no green to speak of, wink-wink, nudge-nudge--

--wait, didja just say at 10:26 that "I love me some Go-Bots"?! Okay, now you're dead to me. I can't even bear to look at you now--

-- okay, at 11:45, I'll admit that was kinda funny. You're absolved.

ANYway, while I collected quite a few funnybooks that were published in the 1980s, I didn't start collecting them until the early '90s. I put together complete runs of Marvel Star Wars, DC Star Trek TOS & TNG, and all the Punisher titles. I eventually found my way to the more serious stories of the period like Alan Moore's Watchmen and Frank Miller's run on Daredevil. And then... well, I hadda sell everything off in order to make space and fulfill a few financial obligations. Them's the breaks some times, you know?

As for your lamentation of kids no longer "walking around reading comic books instead of looking at their cell phones and tablets all day": you do realize you can download digital comics to read on your cell phone or tablet, right? Dude, you really ARE stuck in the '80s... thank God I'm not the only one.

Ha ha, thanks for the comments!  Yeah, for some reason the color green has issues in the time loop. I think it was the exto plasm I spilled in the Atari 😉 and although Go Bots aren’t as cool as transformers, I had a bunch as a kid therefore I love them. Thanks again!

Great stuff, Duke! I used to thumb through comics at the grocery store, but never really got into actually buying comics until about the last decade. I have The Last Starfighter comics, that I bought a few years back, and speaking of V, I'm a huge fan! I actually have all but 1 issue of the 18-issue run of V comics. I like collecting stuff that is TV and movie related, because it's usually cheap to obtain, and those adaptations can be fun. I also have the 2-issue adaptation of Krull.

I miss the late 80's comic prices. I remember getting a stack of comics for $20. Now, $20 will get you 3-4 comics if you are lucky.

Metal Fro- that’s cool that you’ve been collecting TV comics. V is awesome!  I have a bunch of the V comics. Thanks so much for commenting.

Engineer Mike - yeah, they’ve really gone up in price. They are a niche at this point. Thanks for watching!
