Posted under RFG Thanks, Submissions, Thanks, Site News

It looks like 2010 is going to be another awesome year for RF Generation. In the first month of the new decade there was a whopping 5,366 total submission. There were 2,012 image additions, 859 game additions, and 1,915 page edits.
The top ten submitters all had over 100 submissions and were Paully3433, ga5ket, logical123, Madir, Izret101, Spoon, Malingo, ApolloBoy, OatBob, and Medevilblader. These ten members made 87% of the total submissions last month. Truly these are a dedicated bunch of members that make RFGen the special place that it is.
The top staff approvers last month were Izret101, Madir, NES_Rules and ga5ket, each with over 200 approvals last month. These guys let the January submissions in out of the cold that is the queue line and let them into the warmth of the RFGen DB. Without them, those submissions could have very well frozen there, and we don't want frozen submissions.

So remember as you go about your days on the site and remember to thank these eleven individuals for all the hard work that do to keep RFGen THE Classic and Modern Video Game Database!

i will be on the top ten submitters some day Smiley

Wow, great work guys!

@douglie007: You were very close in January and you are off to an excellent start this month. If you keep up the pace you could even be #1 for February.

Well done guys!

Thanks to everyone who submit stuff last month.
Special thanks to those of you who i volleyed PMs with. I think every time i PMed someone i learned something new a few times i bet i even helped the other people learn something too Smiley

@Izret101: I always learn something when I talk to anyone on here Smiley

My question, however, is where you guys are finding all this information? I would love to submit more information other than when I am the first on the site to own a title...

Keep up the good work people Smiley

Many of the games in the database still need information and/or scans and/or screenshots still filled in for them. I'd bet over half of what was added last month was edits to existing titles.

@Izret101: Agreed. Work will be never ending Smiley

Very nice numbers this past month. I have a hundred or so scans that i need to make.  Hopefully I can stop being so lazy and break out the scanner.

Any idea where I can find information (UPC, screenshots, scans, or otherwise) on games I do not own myself?

@Boshamp: Places to look for information include, Ebay, IGN, ESRB.org, etc. Do some searching and you can find information. Try to double confirm information to make sure its correct and trustworthy. Just some things I do anyways.

@Boshamp: Actually, I think it's not allowed to add information from outside sources (aka not your own games). I could be wrong though.

@Sirgin: For general information (e.g. the stuff you can easily find on the box of the game) is fine from another source as its considered "general knowledge". Things that are more unique like overviews, reviews and scans however, must be the submitter's own and not taken from other sources.

@Boshamp: As stated above, you can not take screenshots or scans from other sources. But for the other general information, you can find those at several places. My favorite places are http://www.ign.com and http://digitpress.com. IGN has information on just about every game but its not always 100% accurate while DP has very accurate information but doesn't have info for a lot of games. eBay is also a good source if you want to see what region a game was released in or if it was released at all.

@NES_Rules: Ah, thanks for clearing that up. I knew there were some things you weren't allowed to take from other sources but I wasn't exactly sure anymore what they were. Smiley

Little late to the game here.
I get the bulk of my information from sales sites.
eBay, amazon, etc or "brick and mortar" stores sites. Also for best results it is good to not completely trust one source.

Many sites tend to have complete information but it is not always accurate information. What you can pull off of the small text on the back of your boxes will always be the most accurate. The most likely thing to be wrong on the web will be the developers/publishers. Many times it seems like the "big guys" sites will list a parent company (Take2, 2K, EA, etc) as the publisher/developer when it was either some smaller company or a company owned by them.

With "older" (mostly starting genny and ending with PSX)games there are many times when a company who distributed the game (Sony, Take2, EA, Ballistic, Virgin, Disney, etc) are credited as a publisher when it was not them.
