Probably reacting to the harsh response from Nintendo fans, Scott Steinberg, vice president of marketing for Sega of America, has taken back his comments made about the Wii's future. He stated:

"SEGA has fully supported the Wii since day one and we continue to do so â€" it's no secret that we are close partners. Nintendo has done a masterful job of selling its vision and expanding the market. That said, it's a shared responsibility and opportunity for the whole industry to take advantage of the possibilities of the Wii. If we don't realize its true potential, we will have missed a great opportunity to expand creatively and that is what I was cautioning against in the Reuters interview. I'm not just putting the responsibility of innovation on Nintendo. It's on SEGA and all the publishers and developers as well to carry that flag."

While he's right that it's the developer's fault that the Wii is not showing a whole lot of potential beyond minigames, he did not need to take back his comments. I'm sure that he only took the comments back because of crazy Nintendo fans sending death threats to him.

I'm glad they retracted their previous statement.  It is the developers to make available for the Wii.  They wised up and realised that they have games out there for the Wii and should probably back one of the consoles that supports their software.

I've always liked Sega's games, and although can be a pain (as a collector), I like that they develop for all major consoles.

An easy way to gently remind Nintendo and other third parties of their obligation to die-hard fans and core gamers without repercussions. Well played. Tongue

First it was Nintendo's fault for the Wii's third party support, and now it's everyones fault?

Sega used to make great games.  I highly doubt many would care if Sega disapeared from the gaming industry these days.  What with their lack luster games, their horible use of long dead franchises, they are a shadow of their former self.  Sega's best days are sadly behind them.

I agree about Sega being a shadow of their former self, but there are a few gems in there. The GBA and DS Sonics are actually really good. Everything else, not so much.

Regardless, Sega should have stood by its comments, even if it was a bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

Does anyone really care what Sega says any more? They are a third rate developer and publisher that hasn't made a great game in years.
