I've never heard Fugazi, but a band that I listen to, Slow Gherkin, is apparently really influenced by them.

You should. And I can recommend watching their documentary 'instrument' too. One of the best music documentaries I've ever seen. Great stuff.

They are indeed a great band.  I don't think I'd put them in the "best band ever" spot, but they are definitely worth looking into if you haven't heard their stuff before.
