I was going through my Xbox games checking to see what I had that had multi-player and came across Serious Sam. I remember picking it up cheap but hadn't tried it.

I took a quick peek at the the multi-player at it looks pretty good.

anyone played this game?

Serious Sam is a great coop game.  Basically, its a FPS where death doesn't matter, and you never run out of ammo.  Absolutely great for LANs when you can have 8+ people in the same match.  Never tried it by myself, but I would imagine it wouldn't really be the same without a few other people in the game with you.

On second thought, I've never played the original, only the second encounter.  But they should be pretty much the same.

There is a deathmatch type multipleyer too, but the coop is what really makes the game.

The next edition should be out sometime in early fall for the PC, looks like it will be even better, and will actually have some decent graphics for once.

What he said.  The co-op multiplayer is great.  Croteam is a true testament to why graphics can be sub-par if the gameplay is great.  The engine they created for Serious Sam is possibly the best I've ever seen in any FPS - it's just rock solid.

I have played both the First and Second Encounters.  They are both very good.  Though Jay is right in that the multiplayer steals the show, single player is still fun.  Just don't judge the game before you play multiplayer with at least four other people, preferably more.

Also, I can't comment at all on the Xbox version.  Everything I've said applies to the PC version....  hopefully it does to the Xbox version as well but it may not.  How many people does the game support in multiplayer on Xbox?  Does it have Live support?

It supports up to 16 in multi-player. I don't think there is Live support though, not that that matters to me.

I tried it a few years ago; all I remember is liking it.  Nothing about the game.

You may want to check it out for PC, because I am sure you could get it for really cheap.  I don't know if people play online (never tried - maybe I should), but if you do any LAN gaming it would be worth the purchase.  I'm sure it also looks, controls, and runs better on PC than Xbox or (especially) PS2.
