How has sony been stupid if I remember correctly unless I have been out of it for the past ten years they have been the market leader when it comes to console sales for 2 generations now. Other then faulty hardware how have they been stupid or are you people just mixing them up with Nintendo?

I wonder how many of there number are 1st time buyers? I know one customer at the Gamestop I worked at was going to buy his 4th or 5th PS2 because all the other ones broke. We talked him into getting a X-Box.

They are the market leader but if they do this, no hard drive and price the PS3 really high they could fall.

I don't want Sony to stop making games or anything like that. It just seems to me they are getting to big headed. Much like IBM did with computer.

Well, here are a few stupid/arrogant things that have been said by Kutaragi in just the past few months or so...

“The PS3 is not a game machine “

....then later:

hough sold as a game console, what will in fact enter the home is a Cell-based computer.

...and more:

“Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Shihan (Karate master), and Microsoft is still not a black belt. Just like with their operating systems, they might come out with something good around the third generation of their release.”

...and when the PSP had a faulty design which was absolutely indesputable:

“I believe we made the most beautiful thing in the world. Nobody would criticize a renowned architect's blueprint that the position of a gate is wrong. It's the same as that.”

“Microsoft shoots for the moon. Sony shoots for the sun.”

"This time, Microsoft has stated clearly that it is going after PlayStation. However, they're going not after the PlayStation 3, but the PlayStation 2. They were looking at 2, and that's why Xbox 360 became like that."

“With the PS3, our intentions have been to create a machine with supercomputer calculation capabilities for home entertainment.”

PS3 is “for consumers to think to themselves ‘I will work more hours to buy one'. We want people to feel that they want it, irrespective of anything else.”

“The PS3 will instill discipline in our children and adults alike. Everyone will know discipline.”

“Microsoft is trailing behind us, but they are not a threat. They are good at improving [on products], but we will be advancing to the next level with revolutionary technology.”

“We're not going to equip the PS3 with a HDD by default, because no matter how much capacity we put in it, it won't be enough.”

Everybody loves Kutaragi! He and Jack Thompson have truly stepped up the plate to provide idiotic comments that my man, Hiroshi Yamauchi, would have made.

In all seriousness, this would be a terrible move on Sony's part, but as a Nintendo Fanboy I absolutely love it, and wish that Sony would hasten digging themselves a deep grave.

On a note about Sony's copy protection, which has been classified as a virus, It appears that coders are now using it to make even larger and more sinister viruses! Yay! Thank you Sony for trying to ruin our PC's!

I was almost positive that the PS3 games where going to be 70$ a pop.
Have they changed that price?

Which would make them cheaper here than they are now...

Well we pay 50$ a piece here for them
So if we jump up to 70$ a piece you guys are going to end up paying probably the equivilent of 100-120$ a piece.
I still feel bad for Euro gamers. You guys get so shafted.

i was just assuming they would be on the same page as the X360 games......i guess i was wrong, but i can definitely see sony trying to steal $70 from its loyal customers for a dvd that costs them $3 to make.....oh well

if sony tries to pull this off, i guess they are one of the dumbest companies out there

I was thinking about this over the weekend.  Something like this is obviously complete bullshit to people like us that get our jollies off on buying games used, but what about the "elitist gamer" that the PS3 is going to be aimed at?  You know the guy I'm talking about.  He has to have all of the newest consoles the second they are released, buys all of his games brand new, and sell off anything that they don't play anymore.

So I spoke to one of my friends who is very much in this class about this copyright protection thing.  Even he couldn't see the sense in this.  Not only does this mean that people can't buy used games anymore, it also means that people like him won't be able to sell off thier old games.

So lets see what we have here.  If Sony goes through with this, they are alienating:

1)  Used game retailers, such as Gamestop which is the largest single video game retailer in the country, outside of Wallmart
2)  "Cheap ass gamers" who don't mind buying a game used if it means that they will save 5 bucks
3)  "elite gamers" who want to get rid of thier old stuff to buy new stuff
4)  Gamers that play games just to play with thier friends (madden games, FPS games) who will now have to lug thier entire system over to a friends house if they want to play with other people.

I never thought that I would say it, but it looks like Microsoft may be the industry leader for the next generation.  Scary.

It's a rumor, total bullshit. Total bullshit rumor. It took me a while to realize for some reason, but come on... as south parks Jimmy would say.

i don't see it happening.  even IF it happens, i'm sure a group will bypass the protection with a modchip eventually.  modders have already cracked the cases of 360s.  hooray for reverse engineering and free enterprise.
my opinion.  good article, btw.  definitely thought provoking on how 'the man' is trying to stick it to the consumer for corporate gain again.  Gamestop and EB should offer a double money trade-in on PS2 gear to put toward a MS or Nintendo console.  Then burn the Sony consoles.
