I've played Civ 2 for hours, and hours and hours. Played the scenarios. Had competitions wioth my friends (passing save files around)

Tried Civ 3 a few years ago, didn't like it much, my W98PC struggled.

Anyway, picked it up cheap with Play the World expansion pack. Just whiled away 3 hours, on a tutorial game, saved it at 1100ad.

Not doing very well, a lot of subtle changes confused me, but it looks like a good game, now that I have a decent laptop to run it on.

Smiley

I think i will enjoy this.

Oh man. I understand your addiction. I bought the game for 5 euros some time back and it's the most addictive game ever. It's impossible to stop playing once you start. Always wanting to finish one more invention, building or war. I once played it till 6 in the morning. I couldn't stop.

It does get boring after some time though. It's hard to start in a new game after a few wins (or losses).

Another con is the insane difficulty level. Sure, you can easily finish it at the lowest difficulty setting, but if you want a good ranking you'll have to start at least in the midle difficulty setting. And then be lucky you start at the right place at the map.

I don't remember what Civilization i have now.
I use to play it all the time i got so so far.
I was number 1. None of the competing nations had anything on me. Inventions, technology, Wonders nothing. I ruled.

Maybe i will get back into that a bit over the summer.

Edit
I just remembered i have Civilization: Age of Empires
I think that is the second one but can't seem to find it right now.

I used to like playing Civ 2 a bit, never played Civ 3 personally.  I really prefer my RTS games, such as the Age of Empires series and the excellent Rise of Nations (buy this if you haven't already, very complex and enjoyable game once you get the hang of it).

Yeah.. I' played for another 2 hours after the message.

Got my arse kicked. saved it again, at around 1600a.d Made the classic mistake of ttryig to fight a war on two fronts. My artillery (catapults) seem to be rubbish, and I had to much faith in my musketters.

if I'd used these tactics on this level on Civ2, i'd have been winning!

I never started a war unless the enemy was very weak or if I had a technological advantage. It's amazing how easily you can conquer an empire if you have a few tanks and the enemy only has cavalry. And then just before they destroyed, negotiate with them, so they'll give you everything they own. And then destroy their last city.

Oh yeah, that's the greatest thing to happen. In my last game I had 3 advanced tank armies in a french city I captured and the french kept sending unit after unit only to have them slaughtered. They used everything from warriors to archers to knights. They just kept trying. Silly French.
