I have not played any of the games. I think I have one for GameCube but just wanted to know why they are so popular and or addicting.
I just got my 3DS in feb and was at the too many game expo today and got a lot of street pass friend things and everyone's was saying animal crossing for recent game your playing.

The only games my wife has ever played were the Sims and Animal Crossing. I can't for the life of me, and I've tried several times, figure out the appeal of them though. :/
My favorite street passes are the ones that were recently playing "System Settings". Those ones always make me smile

John bought the game while we were there for TMG and was quickly hooked on it. He played it a lot on the ride home. From hearing him describe it I'm not sure what the appeal is either, but I haven't tried it.

Tell John that Assimilate > Animal Crossing

i always liked the first north american version on gamecube but haven't tried any others in the series. it's hard to explain why it's fun, it just is to certain people. i liked it for trying to collect all the different things like bugs, fish, NES games, etc. it has quite a lot to do and is generally a relaxing game to play, good for casuals and people who want something that's "chill".

Animal Crossing is a great series. It's basically a life sim in which you befriend animals and spend your days trying to be productive. It's incredibly charming in both dialogue and art style and addicting which make it super popular.

I loved it for that reason.
Collecting everything.
But after a couple months the magic wore off and it became more of a daily/weekly ritual to make sure i got the items for that day before popping it out and playing something else.
The GCN version captured my attention for a much greater period of time that the DS version did. I owned but never opened the Wii version and i would like to try the newest release at some point.

I don't have a Xbox or ps3 and there are very for Wii games online. I just got Mario kart for the DS but forgot about new Mario kart 7 that everyone is playing. Ha.

not sure about the DS versions, but on the GCN one you could just look up when the different events happened and then change your system calendar/clock to those times. kind of cheating but a good alternative to spending a year or more just trying to do everything.

Ill pick up a used copy if I can find it for a good price. In no rush to hope on this one. I'm sure once I'm done with a lot of my other 3Ds games ill give it a go and see if it tickles my fancy(so they say)

I tried the DS version and couldn't get into it. There was just no depth at all and I was left wondering what I was missing. Surely there was more to it than 5 minutes of picking up leaves?
