...and now, for something completely different.  This week we have the first racing game to be featured game of the week.  It's a historic event that will be talked about for ages to come, so we chose to feature an equally historic game: Hardcore 4x4.  This off-road racing title for Sega Saturn was released in 1996, and not surprisingly, nobody noticed.  Take a look at this game's page for more information on it, scans, screenshots, and a review.  Thanks go to Mark Hartholt for all of the information you will find there.

One particularly unique thing about the Harcore 4x4 page is that it has a rather large collection of sound files from the game.  A personal favorite is the "Bodacious" quip.  The voice acting was amazing in this game.  You won't want to miss these files, especially since it will save you the pain (so it sounds from the review) of actually playing the game.

Better not get this game when you do get that saturn. It truly is awful. I'll give it a swing later today, it has been ages since I last tried it.

Do you know if this is the same thing as TNN Motorsports Hardcore 4x4?  That's the only game I can come up with that was released stateside with a similar name.  I'm guessing they are the same thing, but it seems kind of odd that they wouldn't use the TNN licensing in Europe.  If they are the same game, any idea why that would be?

Would they even get The Nashville Network in Europe? Maybe that was tacked on for the US release to boost sales. Rather than just a generic truck racing game it's got a network/league attached to it like ESPN or NHL/NFL/NBA, that sort of thing.

Oh, is that what TNN stands for??  I guess that would explain it.

It would be a lot easier to state an opinion on this game if I had played it at one point.  Oh well.

I have TNN Hardcore 4x4 for PSX and in my opinion its a pretty poor game.  Back when PSX wasn't outdated the game had ok graphics and racing trucks was kind of cool, but it has no 2 player mode so it gets boring fast.  3/10

I just gave this monstrosity a try and it's every bit as horrible as it was when I wrote that review some years back. I couldn't even bring myself to finish one race. The controls are just awful. It's like you're bouncing a rubber ball through a puddle of mud.
