I used to always think that Nintendo had unfairly gotten a "kiddie" image.  I felt that while their games may not have been geared specifically to older gamers, they were truly great games for people of any age.  It always kind of pissed me off back in the N64 and early GameCube days that people didn't give some of Nintendo's great games a chance because they were "just for kids" or some other load of bull.

Well, I now understand why Nintendo had that kiddie image.  It's because of horrendous advertising campaigns like the commercial for Super Mario Sunshine you'll see if you follow the link below.  After the first few seconds, I was laughing because I thought it was going to turn out to be some sort of joke.  Then it didn't.  I'm still amazed by how idiotic some of the poeple at Nintendo must have been for allowing this to be played on television.

Nauseating even! Those kids and that singing is just sick. I can't quite put my finger on it, perhaps in a Teletubbie kinda way? I feel dirty after having watched that Sad

That was pretty damn terrible...but I still like Nintendo just as much as I did before, and Super Mario Sunshine is still just as awesome as always.  One commercial can't change my mind on what is, in my opinion, the greatest gaming company of all time.

Still, that commercial was a pretty bad decision on Nintendo's part...

Oh I still think Nintendo is great too, and I still think all of those games that they made in the N64 and early GameCube days were and are great for people of all ages.  I just understand how an uneducated person could see images like that commercial and pass off a game like Super Mario Sunshine as just for kids, even when it really could be good for older gamers too.

Yeah. After seeing that commercial, as an adult I have absolutely no desire to purchase that game no matter how good it may be...it just doesn't convince me that it would be worth my time when so many other fun games are out there that I haven't played yet. For my money, if it's good, it would be worth $3-4.  Cheesy

I will agree that N is an excellent company, but the marketing department did drop the ball on this title, though, if their intent was to attract a broader audience. It seems geared to the soccer mom and under-10 y/o crowd.

as a child, Nintnedos childish image, put me off, and turned me on to SEGA.

As an adult, I wouldn't claim that Nintendo were better at all, but it's SEGA I mostly collect now.

I've gotta say, I'm fairly certain that commercial WAS a joke.  I think it was meant to be funny.  After seeing it, I feel the same about the game as I did before: maybe one day I'll play it.
