mrs.thx rented a French movie, that I didn't watch. She studies French at night school.

I like World Cinema, prefer subtitles to dubbing, but such films on t.v are on so late, that I am too tired to read the subtitles.

Anyway, I rented  ZATOICHI a Takeshi Kitano film, about the Japanes legend of the blind swordsman.  Subtitled of course. Jonathon Ross, a film critic that I like (Mark Kermode is another one I like) was quoted on the cover as saying it was  breathtaking and hugely enjoyable.

I also rented Heist, with Gene Hackman.

Is it just me, growing up as a kid when adults all seem old, or has Gene Hackman always looked like a middle aged bald man?

all 3 films cost £4 for 7 nights on DVD.

We were also going to get The Churchill Years, £3.50 for 2 nights, but the stupid store, only rents 3 DVD's per house.  At first I thouhgt it was because of security, but then figured it was cos they didn't want to run out of rentals in a busy period.

Last night I watched some really crappy horror film, so bad it was good, some of the cast of a Nights Tale were in it.  The Sin Eater i think it was called. Some ultra cheesy moments, with little horror - in fact it was so corny, it was closer to the Broken Sword video game. It was trying to be a watered down Excorcist / Stigmata film, but it wasn't. It was crap, in a compelling viewing, to see if it can get any stupider kinda way.

Let me know how Zatoichi is.  Is that the original or the remake?  I guess I could check by the name but I am lazy.  A friend of mine saw the new one and said it was great.  I have been meaning to see that one and the original for some time now.

now that you mention it, Posieden Adventure, Bonnie and Clyde, Hoosiers, The Quick and the Dead, The Replacements and so on. Gene Hackman looks about the same in all.

From what he was saying, it sounds like it was probably the new one, and not the original or one of its many sequels.
