Do marketplace points used to purchase content, XBox Live Arcade games, etc. be obtained by any means other than by purchasing the points directly from either Xbox Live or from the retail points card?

I guess what I'd like to know is are there any ways of earning points via gameplay which could then be used in a transaction for obtaining marketplace content? (i.e. achievement X will earn you X points in your marketplace account balance).

At fisrt I thought t you got points from playing games and doing certain things.. Then I found out you had to by the points which seems really stupid IMO.

As far as I know you can only buy points.

Tyn, that confirms what I heard too. And I agree, I mean who really cares about achievement points if they can't be used for anything? Tongue

Maybe they'll change it someday...

You have to buy the points.  Although next week Verizon is giving away 1 million free points.

WHAT! Are you serious! Is there a link? What do you have to do to get them?

I have no idea.  I think they're giving the points out in 500 point batches.

Microsoft may be lame for making people buy these points, but I am sure they are making some good money off of it. A good business move IMO.

I dont think I will be buying any points though.

I guess there isn't much of a difference between buying points and buying DLC for cash like on the original xbox live (i.e. halo 2 maps, etc.). It just adds a step to the process.

I've always hated Microsoft, I don't run windows, bla bla. But I don't mind these points, they're easy to buy and I like the Arcade games you get for them.

Now I haven't bought any of the garbage like Oblivion horse armor, but the actual games seem to be pretty worth it.  Plus they're the only things on the Xbox my girlfriend will even consider playing.

You're talking about the xbox live arcade right? Which games can you recommend (aside from Geometry Wars)?

I like all the ones I've downloaded, except for Jewel Quest and Outpost Kaloki.  Outpost Kaloki is so unbelievably pointless, I don't think there's any way to lose at that game.

I just read they're going to release Cyberball on the arcade.

Hmmm. I heard that Outpost Kaloki was supposed to be one of the better ones, does it have higher difficulty levels?
