The marriage of physical exercise and video gaming is a bad marriage IMO

My thoughts on the matter:
I think some people are too fat to be playing DDR, especially in public. When I was in MD this one dude was too large for the machine and flinging nasty sweat everywhere. It was really gross. Dude musta weighed like 600lbs. It was like a fucking elephant stampede minus the stampede
I'm willing to bet that was the cause of that massive earthquake too. DDR at a Jenny Craig convention.

Fat people shouldn't be outside their house at all. They're disgusting.
I suppose everything that helps these people is good though. It's not my problem wether they do situps or play ddr.

Some woman was on the Todayt show last year maybe.
Lost 90 pounds playing videogames.(DDR of course)
I think if they can link benifits of any sort to gaming it helps out. It is generally noted for negatives.
Helping to fat people lose weight is fine by me.

this brought to mind something i saw in a nintendo power from around '95 called Exertainment.(Ant, you have this issue) it was the grand prize in one of the contests back from when nintendo power was cool and not just a large ad. its pretty much an exercise bike that plugs into the controller port on the snes and you pedal it to move in the special bike racing game it came with.

Awesome! Hahaha.
But yeah, I don't think the answer to the nation's obesity epidemic is to play some DDR.
First, don't stop off at McDonald's and get a 4 quarter pounder meal with extra cheese and bacon, and supersize that for me would ya? Thanks. If you need to have McDonalds, get one of them scrawny-ass burgers with a small fry and diet pop.
Second, get off that damn motorized tricycle thing at Walmart. Walk the fuck around. I've seen far too many people who are perfeclty capable of walking motoring around Walmart. Take the stairs. Don't drive a block to get that Super Big Gulp - walk and get a small one. Or make it diet.
Third - Kick the fast food habbit. There are too many (at least in Canada) "healthy" alternatives: Subway, Mr. Sub, Extreme Pita, Pita Pit, Tim Horton's, etc. etc.
Anyway, speaking as a person who used to weight 300+ lbs. and now weigh in at a nice 225lbs (I'm 6'3" btw), you can do it.
Having said all that, I'm eager to try the cheap ass DDR pads I bought off eBay in work out mode! We'll see how long that remains exciting.

I went from 260 to 168 in a very short period of time by simply cutting out some of the stress in my life and drinking diet soda.

I usually lose weight when my stress level increases. Of course, losing fifteen pounds in a month when I only weighed 120 was probably not a good thing.
As for the article... I loved how they used a low angle in that photograph so that the guy's size was emphasized a lot. That was rather funny.
The Power Pad didn't solve America's obesity epidemic. While DDR is seeing a lot more success than the Power Pad did, I still don't see it (or other current games) fixing the fat. OD's suggestions would help a lot more.

It's called "will power" and "Self control". Laziness is not an excuse. I was there, now I'm not. Was it impossible? Nope. Was it hard? Not really. Is it a good idea? If you want to live past 50, yes.
And yes, just substituting diet pop makes a huge difference too. It's amazing the mount of sugar in that crap. (drinking a Diet Vanilla Coke as I type this!)

Diet pops
Seriously, that stuff is really no good for you. Granted, neither it non-diet pop.
Oh wait, maybe my point is that pop in general is really unhealthy!
Seriously, I quit drinking pop except for here and there and just drink water or juice and I feel way better. And the little bit of pop that I do drink, makes my heart skip around. YUK!

I stopped drinking soda and I lost a lot of weight; I still drink it when I want it, even, it's just that I used to compulsively drink like three liters a day. Barf. Lost twenty pounds in about four months, and now I'm lean and sexy.

Makes you wonder how addictive a simple soda is. I used to drink coca cola all the time, but stopped once realizing how bad it is for my teeth. At first that sucked and I really missed coke, but after having it again after some months I realized it really tastes nothing special. It's mostly sugary water.
I didn't lose any weight though. Which is probably a good thing.

True subs are better for you but what if don't like subs?
And Tim Horton's does kick ass. When I lived in MI in 98 I stopped there all the time for breakfast. Thier dounuts and muffins are great.
