Recently I've been playing KOF 2001 and the final boss is just about unstoppable. That leads me into my question.

What do you think is the hardest game you have ever played? This excludes games that are just so crappy that they aren't playable. Remember, there's a difference between a hard game and a badly designed game.

I would say Ninja Gaiden 2. I met a guy who claimed he could beat it once and that it really wasn't that hard. He also claimed he was a choo-choo train.

My Hero for the Sega Master System. I got past the first level, but couldn't go beyond. The game not being a lot of fun helped in my decision to stop.

Hm.. tough one. Rygar on the NES was pretty damn hard. I'd still say Radiant Silvergun is maybe the hardest in terms of beating it with a set amount of continues and not the free play option.
Whos the boss at the end of KOF 2001? U.Rugal? He's a cheap bastard.

The boss at the end of 2001 is Igniz. Rugal is a wimp compared to him. I beat Rugal in like 4 or 5 tries. This guy took me about 50, and even then it was just because I got lucky. But no worries, I played him repeatedly from a save state for 3 days straight until I found the ultimate strategy for defeating him (without exploiting any glitches either). It works every time, as long as you don't do the wrong move all the time because you suck at using a joystick (like me).

I still never have successfully destroyed the reactor and escaped in the arcade version of "Gravitar" in MAME.

Gravitar? Sounds interesting. Going to have to try that.

Life Force is unbelievably diffucult.  I have never got past the second stage withouit using the Konami Code.

SMB the lost levels is hard to, but that's because Nintendo made it artificially harder by messing with the controls.  Cock smokers....

Lost levels controlls were not that  bad and with the remake it is wicked easy because you can save.

You guys ever see the web site where people beat video games in record times? I forget the name of it now, there was a guy who could beat Super Mario Bros. in like 3 minutes. Also one who beat Contra in less than 6 I believe. The videos are pretty amazing.

yeah it was a fake, it took longer to fake the video than it would to have practiced long enough to have done it in a reasonable time

Contra is just pretty much memorization.  I haven't played that game in a bunch of years and I can still get through most of the game in just one life.

For me, it would be Ninja Gaidan for the Xbox.

Life Force is really hard. I didn't even think of that one. I think I've gotten past the second level though. In fact, I'm pretty sure I've gotten to the 4th. It's still not as hard as Ninja Gaiden (NES).
