I actually agree with Tondog ( yeah I said it) 2 was pushing it 3 is just stupid.
Next thing you know, I'll rope you into agreeing that PS3 is a far better platform. Wink

It very well could be when they actually start releasing games and IF Blu Ray takes off but Sony's track record for new formats isn't very good. Plus I would own a PS3 now it it was so much money.
Blu Ray has taken off. It's outselling HD-DVD. In fact, Casino Royale's Blu Ray disc cracked the top 10 DVD list on Amazon.com.

Wake me when someone says SOMETHING relevant... sleeping sleeping sleeping

Sorry. Let me just say my main point again. 2 SKUs is overkill, 3 is just over the top.

Sorry. Let me just say my main point again. 2 SKUs is overkill, 3 is just over the top.

The "Core" system was always a joke anyways, since you would have to buy a memory card or HD separately (for much more than the bundle).

Maybe Sony could offer an inferior product sometime.  Like a PS3 without a hard drive or Blu-Ray support (you would have to buy a license to use it a la dongle and remoteWhat!? You say.   Bad idea.  OK OK just joking.

Actually I wouldn't mind a PS3 without a HDD. I'd feel more secure about it as a long term investment if i had the choice of mem card as well for when the HDD dies and the system is no longer on the market.

As far as Blu-Ray, if/when I go that route I'd buy a standalone player of my own choosing regardless of whether the PS3 has one or not. Much like how my DVD player is vastly superior to the PS2's. I'm sure most A/V connoisseurs would agree. That goes for the 360's HD-DVD drive as well.

Actually, from the reviews I've read, the Blu-Ray player in the PS3 is as good, if not better, than the standalone ones.

Indeed, everyone's always ragging console video players but I don't see the disadvantage. My ps2 works perfectly well.

And I don't know if Nintendo would be concerned with making a next-gen, graphics wise, system, they seem to be more concerned with gimmicky cheap fun.

Phht, fun...what a stupid concept

Finally someone agrees with me.

The PS3 might be a good one now with only a few players on the market but given time it wont be one of the better ones.

And let's not forget the long term here. The HD-DVD and Blu-Rays (PS3s included) are only players. They cannot record/burn anything! It took a long while before DVD burners were on the market, but now most DVD players also record/burn.

Imo, until I get a 1080p TV (which is not likely to happen because by the time I'm ready for one, some other advanced tech will surely be out), I have no use for HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. I'm happy with upconverting of standard DVDs.
