Nintendo: "Destroy our old games"

I stopped by the pawn shop today and picked up a few things. The guy helping me asked if I had heard Nintendo's big, new announcement. I said I hadn't. He told me that Nintendo sent out a message telling them to destroy any classic NES and SNES games that they receive, presumably to boost the sales of their Wii arcade. Has anyone else heard anything about this? It was news to me, but not really shocking news. It seems like something Nintendo would do to ensure that they are still getting paid for anything with that Nintendo seal on it...

I have talked to him numerous times, and he knows his shit. He works for Pawn America so it seems likely that they'd get a request like that, if one exists.

That's what I was thinking. The last estimate that I saw was that they had already made $50+ million on their virtual console sales. A decision like this would only lead to more profits.
I honestly don't even think that it will affect classic game collectors all that much. From the sounds of it, it was more of a "we'd like you to do this for us, but you're not obligated to."

^I wasn't trying to be mean/grammar nazi, but it really isn't that hard to keep homonyms like their/they're/there, two/to/too, and its/it's in their proper place.
Note to the Internet: Spell check doesn't catch everything!

I gave up trying to correct people. Everyone takes it so personally, like I am trying to sleep with their mom or something. Just trying to help you look more respectable, that's all.

It's amazing 8 years later, Elian is still relevant.

That bugs the hell out of me too. Yesterday, a kid gave a presentation in class and spelled "their" as "there" on the PowerPoint. I was tempted to ask him about it in the "Q&A" segment, but didn't.

I could sooner believe I was in the middle of having a sex change as believe nintendo could care a rats ass about a pawn shop chain selling classic games. Every single time they release a classic title on the wii the original cart's value takes a dive. You should call Nintendo's tech support line (it's on the back of the SNES) and tell thim this rumor, I'm sure they'd love a good laugh.

I don't believe this at all, there just isn't a need for it.
