not sure if this has been brought up yet (cause i have been gone for awhile) but this looks real cool.

http://www.grandtheftendo.com/

i cant remember were i saw it, either in GI or at http://www.gamesarefun.com.
hopefully the game will be finished before nintendo decides to take atari's cue about home brewed games.  which also sucks.  although i'm still confused with the atari thing... are all home brew games axed or just the unreleased titles?

Just thought I would clarify that this game is not going to be for sale! It will be available for download for free when it is done. I am not making profit from this game. All of the code, graphics, etc. are done from scratch by me. The dialogue will be original as well when it's released to prevent infringement on that from GTA. I did not reverse engineer anything to create it, trace any graphics, convert any audio, it's all original. Grand Theftendo is simply a spare time, fan project for fun, and to pay tribute to Rockstar Games and Grand Theft Auto.

It is only going to work on ROMS until someone else downloads it and puts it on a cart.
I would like a copy on a cart.

It does look cool though. I'm going to get it.

That's amazing. It even looks better than the Game Boy version.

its not finished yet but it sounds like you will just need an emulator to play it... no tools.

I remember seeing links to this somewhere else on the web a while back, and it does indeed look awesome.  At first I thought all of the dialogue and missions were going to be identical, but I guess that's not the case anymore (or maybe never was).  There was talk for a while about this being made into a cartridge and being sold, though it may not have been from the guy making it.

So what's this about Atari cracking down on homebrew people?  Did they finally take legal action or something since they still technically own the rights to the hardware?
