Getting smoke smell out of games

I got myself 3 complete nintendo 64 games, and although they look pretty good, they smell like they've been used as an ash tray.  I was thinking I could put them outside for a while, but I don't think the rain and moist would do the paper any good.

How do I get rid of the smell?

It dissapates on its own after awhile.
I saw the title and thought that might have been Anti's question.
I got some smokey stuff from her and it went away within a few hours. It wasn't nearly as bad as you made it sound.

If they smell as terrible as you say though i don't know what else you could do i just know all the stuff i have gotten the smell went away in under 1 days time.

Some games do really, really smell like smoke for a long time.  I bought a TRS-80 that had probably been sitting in its box for twenty years, closed, and it was still holding an awful cigarette smoke smell.  Some things lose the smell after time, but cardboard boxes seem to keep it longer than anything else.  I have an air cleaner that supposedly removes the smoke smell from any room it is in (after a day or two, depending how bad it is).  I might try getting that TRS-80 out, which still smells, and put it near the air cleaner.  If it gets rid of the smell I'll let you know.

That would be an interesting experiment, even though I do no thave an air cleaner, so I won't be able to replicate this setup at home. I now put them slightly apart from each other on a table. I intend to leave them there for some time.

They really smell awful. My hands smelled like it too after I took out the games to play them.

If they smell that strong definately don't put them near anything else or it will pick up the smell. (Like your hands.)
I doubt the air cleaner thing will work because cardboard absorbs the smell.
If it does though thats great. Best of luck with your experiment.

When I got my PSX it was used and reeked of smoke for like 6 months.  It just takes time.

You know.. spraying cologne or some yummy body spray (the girly kind) would help a little bit. That's how I get the smoke smell out of most of my things when I go to my mum's. Just make sure you don't spray too close or you'll get droplets or something on it.

But then it'll smell like cologne. I don't want them to smell at all.

I now unpacked the boxes and put them on a desk somewhere in the house. I intend to leave them there for a few weeks. If that doesn't work I'll put them in a windy place in the garden shed or something.

My entire house smells like cigs, tends to happen when everyone smokes. Now you guys got me wondering if there is a good way to get rid of smokey smells.

vinager is supposed to absorb smells too. I don't know if it would work on smoke but it does dissipate paint fumes rather quickly, might be worth a shot.

if you're going to leave the stuff out to air out it couldn't hurt to leave a cup of vinegar out with it.

I also heard that baking soda can absorb smells.  Maybe if you put the games in a box with some baking soda for a day or two it will help the smell.

Before I'll start with all your crazy experiments, I'll first leave them spread out on a table for a few day. I unpacked all of them and put the carts and boxes straight up.

I don't have experience with the problem, the living room where my consoles are is not smoke free. But I won't allow any gameboxes/mauals in there so I don't really have  problem with it.
