Unfortunately, our co-host Crabby has had to take a sabbatical to keep the fantastic Game Quest running in tip-top shape. We used this opportunity to get everyone's favorite Singlebanna, Rich, onto the show to talk Atari 2600. We talk about our memories of the system, collecting for the VCS, and some of our gaming favorites. Do you have fond memories of the system? Was the 2600 before your time? What should you keep an eye out for when you are shopping? Be sure to leave us comments and let us know!

aaaaah, looking forward to listening to the podcast over the weekend!
The Atari 2600 was my first console! I got it pretty late : in 1990 and after the german reunification as a child of the former GDR I didn't know, that Master System and NES already existed. So i got my parents to buy me an Atari out of the "Quelle" mail order catalog.
I still can remember the "cracks and clanks" soundeffects (there weren#t more than 3 differnet i guess Smiley filling the house, when i had my friends over at the birthday party to play JOUST, ASTEROIDS, MARINEFLIEGER (just look it up). I even lied sometimes, saying i wolud  have to do homework, to stay inside and play ATARI, instead of going outside for soccer in the park. Guess i would lie today for not having to play those games longer than 10 minutes! After 2 years i sold my complete ATARI package to my neighbour. And the SNES then took me to video game Eden! But even i didn't miss my Atari very much, i would still like to have it still here in my collection. I bought another one some years ago...but you know, it's not the "original from my childhood". That is why i never sold a console again (only doubles) and i advised a friend of mine, who is 19 years old, never to sell his first system with which he spent his teen-days. He wanted to get rid of his PS3 and games just for an PS4... "just wait and enjoy the PS3 library a bit longer young padawan" i told him Smiley

That's a great story. I can't imagine what it must have been like to grow up in the GDR and go through such a major change when reunification happened. I would imagine the world of gaming that would open up would be very amazing.

You are right about keeping those childhood consoles. Time moves quickly and some things you can just never replace. Thanks for listening.

Aw, man.  I've downloaded and moved up the podcast straight up my queue on my phone.  While not the first system I played (that was the O^2), I have many memories of being placed in front of the VCS by my Grandparents when I was a tike.  While there were a ton of crap games (like any other system, I guess), titles like Blueprint, Demon Attack, and Lock n Chase really filled out my childhood until I started trekking to 7-11s (where much of Michigan stored it's mini-arcades).  Great stuff and I can't wait to hear it.
