Totally missed this avoiding the thread to avoid spoilers, although there wasn't as much as there was with suikoden. I am honored you thought enough of me to name a character after me.

Also wanted to know who's keeping the names the same and who's changing them?
I did change Frog to the more proper Glenn.
Also I wanted to rename Robo.
Was thinking Johnny # 5 but not enough spots
Or Wall E
I think when. I first played the game in the 90s I named him R2D2.
I am definitely a default name guy as well.

You shouldn't be too far from the first checkpoint.
I would think that ATB would be an interesting choice, but I like to take my time planning out my battle strategies so I chose the turn based option.
Fortunately, I wasn't convicted of kidnapping but you end up in he dungeons anyway.
I went with the turn based option as well. I always choose it over ATB within Squaresoft/Enix RPGs
...I totally killed Magus, I admit I didn't see him becoming a character I could pick up...It certainly is not as obvious a route as optional characters are in other games...or I just plain missed it in my haste to catch up. I enjoy that though. When I read he was a playable character on this thread tonight, I decided I would definitely replay this one again, and I will devote an entire PS1 memory card to saving each ending I can find. This game truly is on another level. It has inspired me to not only question what my favorite RPG is, but has made me really want to stop whoring cheevos on the 360 and just play all the RPGs I have.
Lufia II was my favorite RPG before this experience. It has been probably 10 years since I have played it though, so before I declare a new favorite, I will be replaying it to freshen my memory first.

Spoiler
(hover to show)
Beat the game with Ayla, Marle and Frog (average level 70), in approx. 32 hours - three of which were grinding in the Black Omen.
Got ending no. 2 - Reunion (defeat Lavos while Crono is dead), and I still had the Epoch.

This ending starts off pretty grim- as the other characters leave the End of Time to return to their time zones, Marle pleads for them to help her save Crono. When only Marle and Lucca are left, Marle asks 'how can you be so heartless?' to which Lucca replies that death comes for us all. As the two leave, the old man* calls to them, but it's too late.
'Did they leave already? I forgot to give them something. Oh well..'

The ending does have a happier note, although I think that may be because I still had the Epoch
*I did not speak to the old man after recruiting/killing Magus, so he did not reveal himself as Gaspar or give me the Time Egg
Will update with pics, tomorrow (it's after midnight here).
EDIT: Added pix. Sorry for quality.

Phew! Just beat the game. Got the standard ending. I'm happy with that and will probably try for other endings much, much later. This was a beast of a game!

Good job Fleach. I originally tried to beat it with Robo, Lucca and Chrono, but got my butt handed to me. Managed to win with Ayla, Frog and Chrono. What party did you use? was this your first time beating CT?

Yep. First time beating Chrono Trigger. My winning team was Crono, Frog, and Lucca. I played very defensively and Lucca still died. Lavos Core's attacks seem power against female characters; they even annihilated Ayla when I tried the battle with her.

I never used Ayla's Charm ability before, as much as I did for this playthrough.

My first team that took down Lavos was Crono Magus and Frog.

As I had one day left in July, I went for another ending...
Spoiler
(hover to show)
No. 3 - The Dream Project.

Accessible via starting a New Game+ and using the right teleport pad instead of the left during Lucca's demonstration. This means beating all 3 versions of Lavos with Crono and Marle (or Crono alone). Fortunately you don't have to endure Lavos' boss rush mode. Also fortunate is that Crono still gains XP whilst being dead.
EDIT: Added pic.

So you don't have to replay the game to get new endings?

Take a gander at this.

I'm sure many people here have the same sentiments about Chrono Trigger.

I did start a New Game+ to get that ending, although the way this game manages completed game saves, I'd say you could get at few endings witout having to restart.
