Formatting Foreign Titles
«

Just a quick question: Should we be putting foreign words like 'La' or 'El' at the end of a title like 'The'. I haven't seen any written like that despite it being pretty easy to do.

Technically, they're articles like "The", so I don't see why not...

if it's as common as "The" then i would say they should, otherwise you're going to have thousands of titles listed under E or L

Interesting point for Dutch titles starting with "Het", "De" or "Een". Same rules?

It's the same kind of idea - those are articles. However, I'd try to stray away from trying to overdo it:

Some languages know sorting conventions that differ from the language of the catalog. For example, some Dutch catalogs sort IJ as Y. Should an English catalog follow this suit?

Also, some Japanese titles have their main title written in kanji. Shouldn't the romanized version be the main one and the kanji the alternative? Want to ask before I switch them on any entries.

Yeah, Romanized (Hepburn) should be the default.
